    at THE HILL SCHOOL
  • Drama at The Hill School gives students the opportunity to create, imagine, perform, and grow in confidence beginning at an early age. Every student participates in a weekly, age-appropriate Drama class, with instruction designed specifically for each developmental stage—from our youngest learners through 6th grade.

For younger students, Drama begins through creative movement, music, storytelling, imaginative play, puppetry, simple speaking parts, and acting out familiar stories. As students grow, they progress into character development, memorization, stage presence, public speaking, improvisation, teamwork, and theatrical performance.

We believe children become confident speakers and leaders by being given opportunities to practice. Students learn how to speak clearly, express themselves in front of others, listen and respond to their peers, memorize lines, work as part of a cast, and confidently take the stage. Whether a child loves being in the spotlight or is hesitant to perform, our small-school environment allows teachers to encourage each student at an appropriate pace.

  •  🌟 Performing Is Part of the THS Experience

Beginning in PreK, students have opportunities to perform for their families throughout the school year, with quarterly performances that allow them to showcase what they have been learning. Performances are an important part of our program—not because we expect perfection, but because preparing for and completing a performance teaches perseverance, responsibility, teamwork, courage, and confidence.

Some of our favorite THS traditions include our annual Christmas Concerts, Fall and Spring Plays, End-of-Year Performances, graduation celebrations, special programs, and family events. As students grow, so do their opportunities to take on larger speaking roles, solos, leadership responsibilities, and more advanced productions.

  • Drama also naturally connects with many areas of learning. Students strengthen reading fluency and comprehension through scripts, communication skills through dialogue, creativity through character development, and social-emotional skills through collaboration and teamwork.

Most importantly, we want students to discover that their voice matters. Standing on a stage, speaking in front of an audience, working alongside classmates, and seeing something they practiced come to life can build a kind of confidence that reaches far beyond Drama class.

At The Hill School, we don’t just prepare students to perform—we give them opportunities to find their voice, build courage, and confidently share their God-given gifts with others.
