🏃 Physical Education (PE)
At The Hill School, we believe children need opportunities to move, play, challenge themselves, and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Our Physical Education program begins in PreK4 and continues throughout the elementary years, combining structured skill development with plenty of movement, teamwork, and fun.
Our PE program uses SPARK PE, a research-based physical education curriculum designed to keep students actively engaged while developing age-appropriate fitness and movement skills.
PreK4 students participate in a 25-minute PE class, where the focus is on making movement fun while developing foundational skills such as balance, coordination, body awareness, throwing, catching, running, jumping, following directions, and participating successfully in group activities.
💚 Elementary PE
Elementary students participate in PE twice each week for 40 minutes, giving them consistent opportunities to move throughout the school week.
Our elementary coach keeps PE fresh and engaging by taking advantage of the different spaces around our campus. On any given day, students might have class on our fenced outdoor basketball court, the turf field in our backyard, or inside our auditorium when activities or weather bring PE indoors.
Students experience a variety of sports, games, fitness activities, team challenges, skill-building exercises, and cooperative activities throughout the year. Lessons help students develop strength, endurance, agility, coordination, and sport-specific skills while introducing them to activities they may continue enjoying outside of school.
But at THS, PE is about much more than physical fitness.
Students practice teamwork, sportsmanship, perseverance, leadership, communication, following directions, encouraging others, and learning how to win—and lose—with character. We want children to feel comfortable trying something new, making mistakes, practicing a skill, and discovering what their bodies are capable of doing.
We also recognize that not every child considers themselves an athlete. Our goal isn’t to create the best athlete in the class; it’s to help every student find ways they enjoy being active and build the confidence to participate.
Whether they’re learning a new sport, racing across the turf, shooting baskets, completing a team challenge, or cheering on a classmate, we want our Hedgehogs to learn that moving their bodies can be challenging, rewarding, and a whole lot of fun.
Strong bodies. Confident kids. Great teammates. Active Hedgehogs. 💚🦔
