    at THE HILL SCHOOL
  • Music at The Hill School is designed to help students discover their creativity, develop confidence, and experience the joy of making music together. With **two dedicated music teachers—one specializing in Early Childhood and one in Elementary—**instruction is intentionally designed to meet students at their individual ages and developmental levels.

Our youngest students experience music through movement, rhythm, singing, hands-on exploration, and age-appropriate instruments. These early experiences help develop listening skills, coordination, language, self-expression, and an early appreciation for music while giving children the freedom to learn through movement and play.

  • As students grow, music instruction expands to include music history and appreciation, rhythm and musical concepts, vocal development, instrument exploration, performance skills, and both individual and group experiences. Students have opportunities to explore different instruments, discover various styles and periods of music, and understand how music has influenced cultures and generations.

Elementary students also have the opportunity to participate in our Praise & Worship Team, using their developing musical gifts to help lead their peers in worship. We believe this is about much more than learning a song—it provides meaningful opportunities for students to practice leadership, teamwork, responsibility, and using their God-given gifts to serve others.

  •  Performance is another important part of the THS music experience. Students are encouraged to step outside their comfort zones through solos, small groups, classroom performances, and performances for their peers and families. In our small, supportive school environment, students learn that performing isn’t about being perfect; it’s about having the courage to try, supporting one another, and growing in confidence each time they step forward.

Through hands-on learning, worship, musical exploration, and performance, our goal is for every student to leave Music with more than musical knowledge. We want them to develop creativity, confidence, leadership, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for music.

At THS, every child has a voice—and we want them to have the confidence to use it.
