Their work will end. Our promise to them is just beginning.

More than 160 horses currently work within New York City’s carriage industry. With Romanch’s Law approaching a potential vote as soon as September 2026, the Coalition for Responsible Carriage Horse Retirement is preparing now to ensure that every horse affected by the legislation is offered a safe path forward. We are asking compassionate individuals, foundations, businesses, and animal welfare supporters to make a pledge of financial support payable upon passage of Romanch’s Law. Your pledge today helps us demonstrate that when New York City takes this historic step, the resources to protect the horses are already standing behind them.

Red Feather Equine Sanctuary will serve as the steward of Coalition-designated funds, providing centralized administration, disbursement, and financial transparency for funds raised to support the carriage horse transition. Red Feather is a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation registered in the State of North Carolina and is registered to solicit charitable contributions in the State of New York. 

This is a pledge only. No payment is collected today.

If Romanch’s Law passes, we will contact you with instructions for fulfilling your pledge.

A HISTORIC MOMENT

For over 150 years, horse-drawn carriages have been part of New York City.

Now we have the opportunity to ensure that the end of that history becomes the beginning of something better for the horses who lived it.
