Thank you for showing interest in shearing services from me, Chloe Geffken. I am based in Waldo Co. Maine, but will travel the state and New England for shearing.

This form allows me to collect any relevant information so I can provide you with a lowest cost estimate (subject to change based on day of conditions) and options for scheduling. My charges are as follows:

$10/sheep or wether

$15/goats

$20/rams, intact male goats

$5/hoof trims with shearing

$10/hoof trims without shearing

Travel based set up fee

My minimum fee is $100

Sheep with more than 1 years growth will be subject to extra charges.

Are any of these animals intact males? If so, how many?

Please provide the breed(s) if you know. "I don't know" and "Crosses" are both fine answers.

What purpose do your sheep serve on your farm? This context shows me how to approach working with you and set any necessary expectations

Do you want hoof trims?

Do you have animals requiring hoof trims other than the ones being shorn? Please describe and include the number of additional animals.

Are any animals to be shorn pregnant? If so, please provide the earliest and latest date for lambing. Shearing should be done no less than 3 weeks prior to lambing, or 6 weeks after lambing, and I will take your dates into consideration when scheduling.

Is there anything else I should know about your flock? This includes health concerns such as lice, infectious diseases, very old animals, and injuries. Your answers are confidential and I do not judge. Knowing this helps me prevent anything spreading between flocks as I am usually visiting several farms in one day. I am happy to discuss herd health with you at the time of shearing.

I come prepared to shear your flock with my shearing equipment and the information you have given me. There are several things that I rely on you providing or preparing in advance of my arrival. All of the below agreements must be adhered to. If for some reason you are absolutely not able to meet one of these needs, please let me know in the last section.

If I show up and these agreements have not been met and I therefore cannot shear, then I will charge my minimum and we will reschedule. If notice of need to reschedule or cancel is not provided at least 24 hours prior to my arrival, I will charge you my set up fee.

You will supply electricity within 20 feet of the shearing area

You will supply a shearing surface of plywood/compressed board at least 4ftx4ft, a rubber stall mat or wooden barn floor. The shearing surface will be level and not on a slope. Other animals will not be free roaming in the shearing area.

You will withhold feed for 12-20 hours in advance of shearing. This includes hay, pasture, and grain. I want empty stomachs. I am happy to provide more information about why this is.

You or an adult that you arrange will be present to catch and handle sheep from the pen to the shearing board. I will be available to help with gates and system flow. If you need physical accommodations with this request, please let me know.

The sheep will be dry down to the skin on shearing day. You will keep sheep out of any wet weather (snow, rain, heavy fog) up to 3 days before shearing.

If you have more than 6 sheep, is there a place to secure a bracket for my shearing machine?

Please provide information on any accommodations you may need, notes about your set up that would prevent you from keeping your sheep out of the rain, and other information about your farm ("down a long gravel road that gets muddy", "working dogs on premise", "sheep penned up in multiple areas" are a few examples). Feel free to be specific or ask questions here. I will answer them when I send you an estimate and scheduling options.
