The official NHLKIDS virtual lottery determines the draft order. AHLKIDS prospects then participate in the official NHLKIDS virtual draft and are selected during its 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱.
Each prospect is drafted by one of the 12 NHLKIDS organizations, establishing the player’s official affiliation for practices, evaluation and future advancement opportunities.
For AHLKIDS tournament play, two affiliated NHLKIDS organizations combine to form one hybrid team. This creates six competitive AHLKIDS teams:
• Maple Habs — Little Canadiens and Little Maple Leafs
• Beargers — Little Bruins and Little Rangers
• Red Hawks — Little Red Wings and Little Blackhawks
• Flying Pens — Little Flyers and Little Penguins
• Royal Blues — Little Kings and Little Blues
• SeaStars — Little North Stars and Little Seals
The SeaStars join AHLKIDS for 2027 following the return of the Little North Stars and Little Seals organizations.
Although players compete for their assigned hybrid team during AHLKIDS games, they remain connected to the NHLKIDS organization that selected them in the draft.
Players may attend the Combine Training Camp with their NHLKIDS affiliate team. This gives AHLKIDS prospects the opportunity to train within the NHLKIDS environment while being evaluated by its staff, General Managers and coaches.

𝗡𝗛𝗟𝗞𝗜𝗗𝗦 𝗔𝗗𝗩𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗣𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗪𝗔𝗬
AHLKIDS begins 48 hours before NHLKIDS and overlaps with its opening 24 hours. This allows NHLKIDS staff, General Managers and coaches to be present in the facility and evaluate AHLKIDS prospects in person.
Exceptional AHLKIDS players may be considered for:
• A call-up during the NHLKIDS tournament when a roster position becomes available
• A future full-time invitation to NHLKIDS based on performance, development and age eligibility
All advancement decisions remain subject to evaluation, roster availability and approval by the NHLKIDS organization.
