  • Open on 10th August 2026. Closes on 5th October 2026.

    About Our Open Submission Windows

In recent years, our regular script submission window has been administrated by Playwrights’ Studio, Scotland’s Script Reading Service for A Play, A Pie and A Pint. As of May 2026, A Play, A Pie and A Pint will now be running our script submission windows in-house.

We programme writers at a range of career levels, across a range of genres. We’re excited by work that pushes the boundaries of what might be considered possible on the PPP stage, and by work with a strong geographical or social relevance to our Glasgow audiences.

    Who is this for?

Established writers 18+ who are Scottish or Scotland-based

This window is for writers who have been professionally produced or commissioned for the stage before. You might have a relationship with A Play, A Pie and A Pint, you might have had a play on with us before, or you might be keen to start a relationship.

    What can I submit?
We’re open to anything within the remits of A Play, A Pie and A Pint’s model (see below). Your script should not have been professionally produced before.

We count a ‘professional production’ as a play that has met a paying audience in full, where the team were paid at industry rates. Please provide detail of any development that your play has received when submitting.

It might be worth bearing in mind that our chief function is to produce new writing for the stage, and so adaptations are less commonly programmed than fully original work. We do not programme work for family or young audiences specifically. Generally, our plays are suitable for 14+ audiences.

    What makes a script eligible?

    - Written (mainly or completely) in English and/or Scots
    - A theatrical script written for the stage
    - Written for no more than three performers. (This of course doesn’t rule out more than three characters, but where your script includes multi-rolling, please ensure this is clearly indicated.)
    - 50-55 minutes in length. (We suggest this is 45-55 pages, or 7,500-8,500 words, but this might not always be the case. It might be useful to read your script aloud and time it to check.)
    - Submitted as a PDF or Word document
    - Entirely original. (Otherwise, i.e. in case of adaptation, please indicate the adapted material.)
