2026 Technician of the Year Award Nomination
Nominations must be submitted by Friday, September 9, 2026.
Created by the Florida Trucking Association's Technology and Maintenance Council to recognize excellence in the trucking industry by honoring outstanding technicians who demonstrate exceptional skill, safety, leadership, innovation, and commitment to their profession.
WHO MAY SUBMIT NOMINATIONS:
Any FTA member company in good standing may submit a nomination from their technician roster for Technician of the Year.
ELIGIBILITY:
Nominees for the Technician of the Year Award must be employed by or contracted to a member company and must have been continuously employed or contracted for at least one (1) year prior to the nomination date.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS: Failure to provide ALL of these items along with this application could disqualify your technician.
- Supporting documents - Copies of documents such as newspaper articles, letters of recommendation, certificates, awards, etc. are important to provide back up for awards and training assertions. Certificates of completion or participation must be included for training outlined in the application.
- Photos of innovative tools or solutions (if applicable)
BASIS FOR SELECTION: The committee considers the following during competition judging:
1. YEARS OF EXPERIENCE (5-20 Points)
5-10 Years (5); 10-15 Years (10); 15-20 Years (15); 20-25+ Years (20)
2. EDUCATION (0-20 Points)
This includes the technician's education history and training, along with a list of their certifications and credentials received as a technician:
- Technical school courses and degrees/diplomas/certificates
- Company and manufacturer training/certifications
- ASE certifications
- Seminars, self-study courses, manager certifications
- Technician Certification
- Other educational certifications and credentials
3. COMMUNITY/VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT (0-20 Points)
Please provide a record of the Technician's volunteer work to include:
- Any efforts to promote the technician profession
- Any Supertech participation at company or national level Any station/competition wins
- Community service or volunteer activities
4. SAFETY (0-20 Points)
Discuss how the Technician demonstrates safety in the workplace and fosters a safety culture with their peers:
- Participation/leadership with safety teams
- Improvements made to a process or operation to improve safety
- Safety records and achievements
- Mentoring of other technicians in safety practices
5. LEADERSHIP/INNOVATION & TECHNOLOGY (0-20 Points)
The Technician is asked to provide examples of:
- Innovative practices, tools, or applications they created or applied
- Improvements in the work environment or maintenance practices
- Increased efficiencies resulting from their innovations
- Positive change for an OEM, supplier, and/or their company resulting from their efforts
CONTEST JUDGING: There will be a two-tier selection process:
Tier One: FTA TMC Judging committee will score all nominations using the criteria above.
Tier Two: An independent panel will select the Technician of the Year from finalists.
