  • Surge Basketball Coaches & Managers Agreement

  • Purpose and Alignment

This Agreement establishes the expectations, responsibilities, and professional standards required of all Surge Basketball coaches and managers. Surge Basketball is committed to operating within a structured framework that prioritizes athlete development, professionalism, accountability, and full compliance with Basketball New Brunswick (BNB) policies and regulations.

All coaches and managers are expected to align with the club’s philosophy, policies, and leadership direction.

    Commitment to Compliance

Coaches/managers acknowledge that Surge Basketball operates under the authority and membership standards of Basketball New Brunswick (BNB).

All coaches and managers must adhere to BNB’s Code of Conduct, disciplinary procedures, and all applicable governance requirements. In addition, all coaches and managers must also follow Surge Basketball’s Code of Conduct.

Failure to comply with BNB and Surge policy may result in sanctions being imposed by BNB and/or the Surge Advisory Board.

    Professional Conduct Standards

    Surge coaches/managers agree to:

    1) Conduct themselves with professionalism at all games, practices, tournaments, meetings and team related activities.

    2) Model composure and leadership at all times, choosing to respond thoughtfully rather than react emotionally or in anger when faced with stressful or challenging situations.

    3) Use respectful and appropriate language when interacting with athletes, officials, parents, volunteers and fellow coaches.

    4) Address all concerns through established internal channels and avoid engaging in external disputes or communications on behalf of the organization (unless authorized by the Surge board or Operations team directly).

    5) Respect and support all decisions made by Surge leadership.

    6) Prioritize athlete development, character, and sportsmanship; recognizing that long-term growth and positive culture take precedence over winning at all costs.

    Representation of Surge Basketball

Coaches/managers understand that they represent Surge Basketball when participating in club activities, tournaments, meetings, and community events. This responsibility extends to digital presence and social media.

Coaches and Managers must ensure that all posts, comments, messages, and shared content reflect professionalism, respect, and alignment with Surge Basketball values.

Public criticism of officials, governing bodies, athletes, parents, fellow coaches or other clubs/teams is not permitted.

Content that could reasonably be interpreted as inflammatory, inappropriate, or damaging to the reputation of Surge Basketball or Basketball New Brunswick is strictly prohibited.

Coaches are required to familiarize themselves with Surge Basketball’s Social Media policy.

    Communication Protocol

All communication with Basketball New Brunswick must be directed through Surge Basketball leadership (unless otherwise authorized).

Coaches are expected to remain respectful, timely, and solution-focused in their communication with athletes and parents.

Communication should reflect the values and standards of the Surge program and contribute to a positive and supportive environment for all participants.

Protocol to Address Concerns & Incident Oversight

Any incidents, conduct concerns, spectator issues, or policy breaches must be reported promptly by coaches or managers to Surge leadership. Should concerns arise regarding another team/club, an official or Basketball New Brunswick; the concern should also be immediately reported.

Any identified concerns will be addressed by Surge leadership through established reporting and appeal processes.

Coaches should not take these matters into their own hands. The Surge board also reserves the right to review incidents involving Surge coaches and to implement internal measures (including corrective action, sanctions or coach removal) in alignment with its governance responsibilities.
