Think your pup has what it takes to lead the pack? 🐾The City is searching for its next Dog Mayor—a friendly, community-loving canine ready to represent local pups, make special appearances, and bring plenty of tail wags to City events.Before submitting your application, please review the eligibility requirements below to make sure your candidate is ready to run. If your dog qualifies, complete the application, tell us what makes them mayor material, and get ready to hit the campaign trail!Good luck, candidates—and may the best pup win!
Eligibility Requirements
- Owner must be a City of Wilton Manors resident and/or current dog park member and 18 years of age or older.
- Dog must be legally owned by or live with the applicant.
- Dog must have current rabies and Bordetella vaccinations.
- Dog must be healthy enough to participate in public appearances.
- Dog must be reasonably socialized and safe around people and other dogs.
- Dogs should be comfortable participating in crowds and community events.
- Owner must be willing to commit to a two-year term and required City appearances.
- Owner must agree to the program rules, liability waiver, and photo/media release.
- Submissions must be in by end of day September 27, 2026.
I understand that if I do not meet the eligibility requirements for the Dog Election, my application will not be considered.

Assumption of Risk
I understand that participation may involve public events, crowds, other animals, noise, weather, traffic, equipment, and other conditions associated with community activities. I voluntarily assume the ordinary risks associated with my participation and my dog’s participation in the Dog Mayor Program.

Owner/Handler Responsibility
·         My dog will remain under my direct supervision and control.

·         My dog will be appropriately leashed, harnessed, or otherwise restrained unless specifically authorized by City staff.

·         I am responsible for monitoring my dog’s behavior, health, comfort, and ability to participate safely.

·         I will promptly remove my dog if the dog becomes ill, injured, overly stressed, aggressive, uncontrollable, or otherwise unable to participate safely.

·         I will follow applicable laws, ordinances, event rules, and instructions from City staff.

·         I am responsible for injury, property damage, or other loss caused by my dog to the extent provided by applicable law.

Release and Waiver
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I release and hold harmless the City, its elected and appointed officials, employees, volunteers, representatives, agents, and program partners from claims arising from my voluntary participation or my dog’s participation in the Dog Mayor Program, except to the extent such claims cannot legally be waived. This waiver does not expand, waive, or otherwise alter any rights, protections, defenses, limitations of liability, or immunities available to the City under applicable law.
I, the undersigned owner or authorized handler of the dog participating in the City’s Dog Mayor Program, acknowledge and agree to the following
I, the undersigned owner or authorized handler, give the City permission to photograph, video record, and otherwise capture the image, likeness, name, and activities of myself and my dog in connection with the Dog Mayor Program and related City events.

How the City May Use the Media
The City may use photographs, videos, audio, interviews, quotes, the dog’s name, and other program-related content for legitimate City purposes, including:

·         City websites and official social media

·         Newsletters and publications

·         Flyers, posters, brochures, and promotional materials

·         Press releases and media communications

·         Event promotion

·         Educational and informational materials

·         City Commission presentations or meetings

·         Displays in City facilities

·         Future promotion of the Dog Mayor Program

·         Other City communications and public-information purposes

No Compensation
I understand that I will not receive payment, royalties, or other compensation for the City’s use of photographs, video recordings, or other media created in connection with the Dog Mayor Program.

Editing and Reproduction
I authorize the City to reproduce, publish, display, edit, crop, resize, or otherwise prepare photographs and recordings for City use, provided the use does not intentionally misrepresent the participant or the Dog Mayor Program.

Third-Party Media
I understand that Dog Mayor appearances may occur at public events where members of the public, news media, event attendees, or other third parties may independently photograph or record participants. The City cannot control photographs, recordings, or content created or distributed by independent third parties.

Duration of Permission
This authorization applies to media created during the dog’s candidacy, election, and term of office. Materials created during this period may remain in previously published City materials, archives, websites, social media posts, public records, or other communications after the Dog Mayor’s term ends.
I acknowledge that I have read and understand this authorization and voluntarily grant the permissions described above.

I acknowledge that I have read and understand the Full Rules, Policies, Procedures, and Responsibilities and agree to comply with all requirements throughout the election process and, if elected, for the duration of the Dog Mayor's term.
