We Remember: 25 Years Later

This Sept. 11 marks 25 years since the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — a day that changed our nation and left memories that remain vivid for millions of Americans.

As we prepare We Remember, a special commemorative section to be published Friday, Sept. 11, we invite our readers to share their memories and reflections on that day and the weeks and months that followed.

Questions to consider as your write your response:

Where were you when you first heard what had happened?
What do you remember seeing, hearing or doing that day?

What did you feel?
Fear, disbelief, sadness, anger, uncertainty — or perhaps a sense of unity with those around you?

What do you remember about our nation in the aftermath?
How did Americans respond to one another? What stands out to you about the sense of community, patriotism or togetherness during that time?

How did Sept. 11 change you?
Did it affect your outlook, your family, your career, your faith, your community or the way you viewed the world?

Twenty-five years later, what does Sept. 11 mean to you?
What lessons from that time should we remember today, and what would you want younger generations who did not experience 9/11 to understand?

We welcome personal reflections of up to 250 words.

You do not need to answer every question above — use them as a guide in sharing the memories and reflections that are most meaningful to you. Selected responses will be published in We Remember, our special 25th-anniversary commemorative section on Friday, Sept. 11.
