  • Guidance for Schools

We encourage applications from schools within Yorkshire and its adjoining counties for activities that increase children’s understanding and engagement with farming, locally produced food and the environment.

Partial grants for travel to The Yorkshire Show or Countryside Days may be considered but are unlikely to receive funding.

Priority may be given to activities that benefit a greater number of children.

Grants will not generally be awarded for visits to farms as several organisations already provide access to these opportunities, including:

    • The Country Trust
    • Countryside Learning
    • LEAF
    • Countryside Classroom
  • Guidance for Individuals

We encourage applications from individuals seeking to support their career in agriculture and personal development. This may include attendance at training courses, seminars, conferences or other developmental opportunities.

    We would particularly favour applications:

    • With strong connections to Yorkshire and its adjoining counties.
    • From individuals who can demonstrate a track record of helping the wider farming or rural community.
    • From individuals who have not previously received funding from YAS.
    • Where the individual has contributed to costs or secured support from other sources.
    • Where the individual has supported, or intends to support, YAS activities.

We would not normally consider applications from individuals in employment where an employer would reasonably be expected to provide funding.

  • Guidance for Organisations

We encourage applications from organisations working within the agricultural sector.

The organisation must have operations in Yorkshire or its adjoining counties, and the activity must benefit Yorkshire or its adjoining counties.

    We would particularly favour applications:

    • From charities and not-for-profit organisations.
    • From smaller organisations where a YAS grant can make a significant difference.
    • Where funding has been sought or secured from other sources.
    • Where outcomes can be transferred or adopted by similar organisations.
    • That benefit a large number of people.
    • With strong connections to Yorkshire and its adjoining counties.

    We are unlikely to fund:

    • Large national organisations unless the activity has a specific focus on Yorkshire or its adjoining counties.
    • Other grant-making charities.
    • Large commercial organisations.
    • Activities with minimal relevance to agriculture or rural affairs.
