• Petition Demanding an Immediate Public Hearing on the Olde Mill Dam

Please fill out the form to sign the petition to demand County Action
  • On or about August 2nd, 2026, Big Reed Island Creek became a raging, destructive torrent, when approximately 96 Million gallons of lake water, golf balls, and lawn chemicals came down on residents and land owners in Carrroll County.

This incident was directly due to the failure of the Olde Mill Golf Course Dam. This dam has been repeatedly cited by State of Virginia DCR engineers for being out of compliance with state law concerning dam management since 2006, and the owners have done nothing.

Under state code, at the minimum, they have never worked with Carroll Emergencey and Sediment officials to develop a viable Safety Response plan that should have included a process by which they would contact Carroll's Emergency Response officials, and in turn, they should have contacted residents whose farms,  equipment, and lives were in danger.

The undersigned residents of Carroll County who live or own property near or on Big Reed Island Creek demand, as soon as possible, a  Public Hearing on this issue, hosted by County Officials including The County Administrator, County Supervisors, all County Emergency Staff, the noncompliant dam owner and State DCR Engineers!
