• JCCH Nakamoto-Hiraoka Ethnic Studies Scholarship

  • The JCCH Nakamoto-Hiraoka Scholarship will award two scholarships per academic year to students currently enrolled at one of the campuses within the University of Hawaiʻi System starting from the Fall of 2026. One scholarship of $4,000 will be awarded to a qualifying junior and one scholarship of $5,000 will be awarded to a qualifying senior. 

    The scholarship is open to undergraduate junior and senior students enrolled in the University of Hawaiʻi system and pursuing one of the following: a major or double major in Ethnic Studies; an Undergraduate Certificate in Ethnic Studies; a major in American Studies with a focus on Japanese Americans.

    Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

    Interested candidates must submit a cover letter stating their interest in the scholarship, their resume, school transcript and completed application by October 10, 2026.

    The Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi (JCCH) was incorporated in 1987 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation with a goal to perpetuate the Japanese cultural heritage, educate future generations on the Japanese American experience in Hawaiʻi and foster understanding among Japanese in Hawaiʻi, U.S. and Japan.
