- Open to licensed hotels and resorts with 10 or more licensed room-equivalents.
- Properties are assessed within the context of their size, price point, operating model, including how consistently they deliver the experience promised to guests.
- A hotel or resort restaurant may be treated as a separate nominee only where it is independently licensed or registered, separately staffed and managed, separately marketed and operationally distinct.
2. Small Accommodation of the Year
Recognizes a licensed accommodation with less than 10 licensed room-equivalents that provides an exceptional, personalized and distinctive visitor experience. The category celebrates smaller properties that use their scale to deliver attentive service, strong guest relationships, comfort, authenticity and a clear sense of place.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to qualifying boutique hotels, inns, guesthouses, lodges, cabaña properties, licensed villas and other small accommodations.
- The property must have less than 10 licensed room-equivalents.
- Judges assess personalized guest care, cleanliness, maintenance, comfort, value, responsible practices and the delivery of an authentic Belizean experience.
3. Tour Operator of the Year
Recognizes a licensed tour operator that consistently delivers safe, reliable, well-managed and high-quality visitor experiences. The award reflects operational excellence, guide quality, visitor care, responsible tourism practices and the ability to provide dependable and authentic experiences.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to licensed Belize tour operators in good standing.
- Specialist operators are eligible and are not disadvantaged because they offer a focused range of tours.
- Finalists must be able to demonstrate appropriate insurance, safety systems, emergency procedures, guide credentials and operational reliability.
4. Tour Guide of the Year
Recognizes a licensed tour guide who demonstrates exceptional knowledge, interpretation, communication, professionalism, safety awareness and visitor care. The guide should engage different audiences, explain Belize's natural and cultural heritage accurately, adapt to visitor needs and represent the destination responsibly.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to licensed tour guides who have actively guided for at least two years.
- Self-nominations are not accepted.
- Nominations may be submitted by visitors, employers, tourism businesses, colleagues, associations, sites or community organizations.
- Finalist assessment may include testimonials, a structured interview and an observed or practical guiding component.
5. Frontline Tourism Professional of the Year
Recognizes a non-executive tourism employee whose professionalism, service, initiative and care directly contribute to a memorable visitor experience. The award celebrates employees who demonstrate genuine Belizean hospitality, solve problems, support their teams and positively represent their business and destination.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to non-executive tourism-facing employees with at least 12 months in their current or comparable role.
- Eligible roles may include front desk, reservations, housekeeping, food and beverage service, drivers, captains, airport and cruise personnel, rangers, site attendants, visitor-center personnel and other operational tourism roles.
- Self-nominations are not accepted.
- Nominations must include specific examples of exceptional service, initiative or service recovery.
6. Restaurant of the Year
Recognizes an established restaurant, whether independently operated or located within an accommodation property, that consistently delivers an outstanding dining experience through food quality, culinary execution, service, atmosphere, cleanliness, value and a well-defined concept.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to legally registered full-service or substantial restaurant operations with all applicable trade and public-health approvals.
- Hotel and resort restaurants are eligible where they operate as clearly identifiable dining outlets.
- Restaurants are not required to offer multiple cuisines; a focused and authentic concept may be equally competitive.
- Restaurants that meet the definition of Local Eatery of the Year will be assigned to that category.
7. Local Eatery of the Year
Recognizes a small, independently operated food establishment that consistently delivers high-quality food, genuine hospitality and an authentic, accessible dining experience. The category creates a fair opportunity for community-based, neighborhood, roadside, family-operated and similar eateries that may otherwise be overshadowed by hotel restaurants and larger standalone establishments.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- The establishment must be independently owned and operated and must not form part of a hotel, resort, or large restaurant group.
- Eligible establishments may include neighborhood eateries, roadside restaurants, traditional food outlets, small breakfast or lunch spots and permanent market eateries.
- All applicable trade, food-safety and public-health requirements must be current.
8. Sustainable Tourism Champion of the Year
Recognizes a tourism business, organization, attraction or experience that demonstrates verified leadership in responsible tourism through measurable environmental, social, cultural or local economic outcomes. The category rewards sustained and material results rather than isolated activities or promotional claims.

- Open to tourism businesses, organizations, attractions and experiences operating legally in Belize.
- Nominees must demonstrate measurable outcomes and provide credible supporting evidence.
- Applicable environmental, labor, licensing and other legal obligations must be met as a baseline requirement.
9. Cultural Experience of the Year
Recognizes an authentic, respectful, and engaging visitor experience that interprets, celebrates or safeguards Belize's living culture, heritage, traditions or creative expression. The award recognizes experiences that involve cultural practitioners and communities, transmit knowledge, create local benefit and provide visitors with meaningful and accurate engagement.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Open to legally operating cultural experiences, programs, community enterprises and tourism activities.
- Community consent, participation or ownership must be demonstrated.
- The experience must benefit cultural knowledge holders and avoid exploitation, stereotyping or misrepresentation.
- Any applicable permissions, intellectual-property considerations or cultural protocols must be respected.
10. Site of the Year
Recognizes a legally established and managed natural, cultural, historical, archaeological or built attraction that delivers an outstanding visitor experience while protecting and interpreting the values for which it is recognized. The award considers management, conservation, interpretation, safety, maintenance, cleanliness, accessibility and visitor services.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Eligible nominees may include archaeological sites, national parks, reserves, sanctuaries, museums, heritage sites, natural attractions and other recognized visitor sites.
- The nominee must demonstrate legal ownership, management authority, concession, co-management responsibility or another recognized operating arrangement.
- The site must comply with applicable conservation, safety and visitor-management requirements.
11. Wellness Experience of the Year
Recognizes a tourism-facing wellness experience that provides safe, professionally managed and high-quality services supporting physical, mental, emotional or spiritual wellbeing. Eligible experiences may include spas, retreats, yoga, movement, mindfulness, therapeutic massage and nature-based wellness programs.
Eligibility and Category Scope
- Nominees must hold all applicable licenses, professional credentials, permits and public-health approvals.
- Medical or therapeutic claims must be supported by appropriate qualifications and must not be misleading.
- The experience must be marketed and delivered as a tourism-facing wellness product or service.
