Temple. Meat suit. Machine. Prison. Every human being has a body, yet across thousands of years, and through religion, philosophy, literature, and science, we have continued to debate about the significance of the body to our humanity.
In this Food For Thought module, we will consider key questions about the human body–beginning with whether we have, or whether we are, our bodies. We will explore the meaning of pain and the morality of pleasure, the significance of frailty and human weakness, whether and how the body may be altered, and how the digital age may change–and even threaten–our appreciation for what it means to be an embodied creature.
Undergraduate and graduate students are invited to join us for dinner and discussion on Wednesday evenings in Harrison College House starting Wednesday, September 9, as we dissect these topics and more.
Dates: Wednesdays, 5:45 - 7:00 PM. Dinner and readings will be provided.
