Welcome to the 2026 - 2027 RISE Book Club!

Welcome to the 2026 - 2027 RISE Book Club!

RISE (Resilience, Illness, Story, Empathy) is a welcoming space where Emory students, faculty, and staff read and reflect on illness narratives.  It is intended especially for people living with illness, as well as those seeking to better understand these experiences and provide meaningful support. Each session focuses on a memoir exploring how illness shapes identity, relationships, and resilience, followed by an open discussion.  This year’s theme will be stories of caretakers. In the fall, we will focus on parents caring for children with disabilities or serious illnesses. In the spring, we will consider the experiences of healthcare providers who become patients.  You can attend any or all of the meetings – whatever works best for you.  All are welcome!
