    Overview (page 1 of 4)
  • Peoria 2nd Saturdays is a monthly arts and community event in the arts district of downtown Peoria, bringing together local artists, makers, musicians, businesses, food vendors, and neighbors for an evening of art, music, shopping, and connection.

Our Event Volunteers help make the evening welcoming, organized, and safe. Rather than assigning volunteers to one specific position, volunteers serve wherever support is most needed during their shift. Responsibilities may vary from month to month depending on the event, programming, attendance, and needs of the team.

    What you may help with

    Event Set Up

Volunteers assisting before the event may help with:

    • Moving chairs, tables, and other furniture inside Axiom Venue
    • Assisting with the movement and placement of music equipment, including amps, microphones, stands, and other event gear
    • Distributing wayfinding signs and event signage throughout the district
    • Helping prepare event areas for visitors
    • Assisting with vendor arrival and check in
    • Helping vendors locate their assigned spaces
    • Supporting other set up needs as directed by event staff

Some set up responsibilities involve lifting, carrying, walking, and being outdoors.

    Visitor Experience and Event Support

During the event, volunteers may be stationed throughout the arts district or asked to make rounds between event areas.

    Responsibilities may include:

    • Welcoming visitors and helping create a friendly atmosphere
    • Answering basic questions about the event, vendors, performances, restrooms, parking, and nearby activities
    • Providing wayfinding and helping visitors navigate between event locations
    • Keeping an eye on event areas and notifying event staff if assistance is needed
    • Supporting vendors, artists, musicians, and event staff as needs arise
    • Helping maintain clean and welcoming public areas
    • Assisting with pedestrian flow
    • Helping direct traffic when needed
    • Assisting visitors as they cross streets at designated intersections
    • Helping identify and communicate potential safety concerns to event staff

Volunteers are not expected to act as law enforcement or professional security personnel. Their role is to remain visible, helpful, attentive, and connected with event staff.

    Event Clean Up

At the conclusion of the evening, volunteers may help with:

    • Collecting wayfinding signs and event signage
    • Returning chairs, tables, and furniture
    • Helping move music and event equipment
    • Picking up trash and helping leave event areas clean
    • Assisting vendors or event staff with basic breakdown needs
    • Completing other closing tasks as directed by event staff

Volunteers may select from the following shifts:

2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (2 volunteers needed)

This shift helps prepare the event before guests arrive.

5:00 PM to 8:00 PM (4 volunteers needed)

This shift takes place during the primary event hours and focuses on helping guests navigate and enjoy Peoria 2nd Saturdays.

7:00 PM to 10:00 PM (2 volunteers needed)

This shift overlaps with the final portion of the event and helps transition the district from active programming into closing and clean up.

Volunteer assignments will be determined based on the needs of each event.

    What We Are Looking For

Great volunteers do not need previous event experience. We are looking for people who are:

    • Friendly, welcoming, and comfortable interacting with the public
    • Dependable and able to arrive on time
    • Flexible and willing to help wherever needed
    • Comfortable walking and standing for portions of their shift
    • Comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
    • Able to follow instructions and communicate with event staff
    • Attentive to their surroundings and willing to speak up when something needs attention
    • Comfortable helping with light physical tasks such as moving chairs, signage, and event equipment

*Volunteers should let the event team know in advance about any physical limitations so that assignments can be adjusted when possible.

    What to Expect

Peoria 2nd Saturdays is an active community event, so every volunteer shift may look a little different. You might begin your evening helping a musician carry equipment, spend part of the event helping visitors find a mural or vendor, assist people crossing an intersection, and finish the night collecting signs and resetting a venue.

The goal is simple: help create an event that feels welcoming, organized, safe, and enjoyable for everyone who attends.
