The Travel Bursary reflects Ikon’s commitment to equitable access to education and the development of skills in regional and remote communities. It applies to those subjects delivered in a blended mode, which includes online classes with a compulsory in-person intensive workshop at an Ikon campus.
The Bursary supports students who are required to travel a significant distance from their usual place of residence to attend a compulsory component of the course, thereby helping to ensure that geographic location is not a barrier to participation.
Who can apply?
You may be eligible if:
- you are currently enrolled in an Ikon course that includes a compulsory in-person intensive workshop;
- you are enrolled in the relevant subject after its census date;
- you have not previously received a Travel Bursary in respect of that subject; and
- your usual residential address is at least 150 kilometres from the nearest Ikon campus where the intensive workshop is delivered.
Ikon may also consider an application where the distance is less than 150 kilometres if:
- disability or accessibility requirements create additional travel barriers; or
- exceptional travel circumstances apply
Supporting documentation is required for consideration of exceptional circumstances.
Eligibility is not assessed based on a student’s financial circumstances.
What assistance is available?
Eligible students will receive a bursary of $1,000 (once only, for each subject where this applies) to support costs associated with attending the intensive workshop, such as:
- public transport or airfares;
- fuel and other travel costs; and
- accommodation.
The bursary will be assessed after census date and paid directly into the student’s nominated bank account four weeks after approval.
