ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Are you looking to connect with your community and express your voice? Are you a resident of North York and between the ages of 18-29?

The Northside of Everywhere is a North York Arts program where participants are invited to take part in a workshop series facilitated by Toronto based documentary artist Uchenna MacDonald on the production of a series of collaborative audio/visual interview based episodes that highlight and investigate the participant experience and connection to their neighbourhood.

The program will ask participants to investigate their experience of North York through their relationships with artists, businesses, infrastructure, family, community, etc and to use a documentary based approach in their approach to content gathering. Participants are encouraged to bring forward stories, images and their own perspectives which will be implemented in the project via video and audio materials.

No experience is required to participate in this program.

Participants will:
- Learn audiovisual storytelling principles.
- Develop interviewing and ethical journalism skills.
- Gain experience using audio and video recording equipment.
- Produce an original interview-based story connected to North York.
- Build confidence telling community-based stories.
Opening Workshop Date: Monday, August 31
Time: 6pm-7:30pm

Filming Dates: September 16, 21, 24
Time: 6pm-7:30pm

Where: TBD (will be within the North York area)

About Uchenna MacDonald:

Uchenna MacDonald is a committed Documentarian, Editor, Writer, Community Engager, and Reader! Born in Boston, he has since lived in Montreal, Toronto, Providence, and Seville, Spain. Uchenna has an undergraduate degree from Concordia University in Creative Writing and a Master of Fine Arts in Documentary Media from Toronto Metropolitan University.

Uchenna’s art explores topics such as individual and communal identity and how that identity locates people within broader societal dynamics.

The short film will incorporate audio and video recordings of participants sharing their experiences/memories/hopes on the Downsview community. Participants are also welcome to appearing on camera if they wish to do so but are not required to. At minimum, participants must be okay with the use of their voice being integrated into the final short film. Would you be comfortable participating in an audio recording session to be used in the film?
