• City of Dallas Día de los Muertos Exhibition Call for Artists

  • OVERVIEW

    The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture is seeking Dallas-based artists to participate in a Día de los Muertos exhibition to be displayed at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street, Dallas, TX 75201.

    This exhibition invites artists to celebrate and reflect upon the traditions, memories, cultural richness, and enduring legacy of Día de los Muertos. Through a range of artistic voices and perspectives, the exhibition aims to honor the lives and memories of those who have passed while exploring themes of remembrance, family, community, and cultural heritage.

    Accepted artworks should be installation-ready, either framed or with hanging hardware attached

    Artwork Requirements: Artwork must be appropriate for public display. Submissions may not include sexually suggestive or disturbing imagery, nudity, political commentary, commercial messaging, or iconography related to terrorism.

    Size & Weight Requirements: Artwork must weigh less than 15 pounds and fit within the City Hall lobby display panels, which measure approximately 118.5 inches high × 83 inches wide × 4.5 inches deep.

    EXHIBITION SCHEDULE

    • Submission Deadline: September 25, 2026, by 5:00 PM
    • Selected Artists Notified: October 5, 2026
    • Artwork Drop-Off: October 12–16, 2026 (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
    • Exhibition Dates: October 19 – November 6, 2026
    • Artwork Pick-Up: November 10 & 12, 2026 (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

    As a City of Dallas employee, you will not be eligible to receive an artist stipend if one is available for this exhibit. We understand if this impacts your decision to participate. If you choose to withdraw, please do not complete this form. However, if you decide to proceed, please continue with your entry.  

  • ART ELIGIBILITY

    Only 2D visual artwork will be considered for this exhibition. Artists must either live in the city limits of Dallas or work in a studio within the city limits of Dallas. NOTE: Highland Park, University Park, and Cockrell Hill are NOT considered within the City limits of Dallas. (see the City of Dallas boundaries map at http://gis.dallascityhall.com/cityinfo/)

    Submission of entries constitutes agreement to the conditions set forth in this document and in the Policy for the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture.

    • Accepted artworks should be installation-ready, either framed or with hanging hardware attached.
    • Size & Weight Requirements: Artwork must weigh less than 15 pounds and fit within the City Hall lobby display panels, which measure approximately 118.5 inches high × 83 inches wide × 4.5 inches deep.
    • A maximum of three submissions can be accepted per artist.

    SUBMITTING ENTRIES

    No entry fee is required. Artists may submit up to three completed works of art.  Artists should submit entries as digital files (JPG, JPEG, PNG).

    Submission Deadline: Entries must be received by September 25, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

  • SELECTION NOTIFICATION

    The selected artists will be notified by email by October 5, 2026. If your artwork is not selected for display, you will not receive a notice. The decision of the exhibition curator is final and undisputable.

    A $250 stipend will be provided to each selected artist. The maximum stipend is $250 per artist, regardless of the number of artworks selected. Once the selection process has concluded, details will be communicated through the contact information submitted in the application.

    Delivery Dates: October 12–16, 2026 (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

    Art should be ready for installation at the time of delivery. No artwork shall be removed from the exhibition before the closing date. It is understood that the accepted artwork images can be reproduced by the Curator and the City of Dallas for publicity and educational purposes.

    INSURANCE

    The City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture will provide insurance on most works of art. In some cases, the City of Dallas may refuse to insure certain pieces of art. Artists have the option to purchase their own insurance separately. While on exhibition, the artwork will be given all reasonable care.

    Shipping/delivery of artwork to and from the Majestic Theatre is the responsibility of the artist. The insurance coverage provided by the City will not be in effect while the artwork is being shipped. Prepaid shipping label for return should accompany artwork.

    SALES

    Transactions for the purchase of artwork shall be directly between the purchaser and the artist or his/her official agent.
