Roots & Rivals: A Pediatric Oncology Mentor-Mentee Garden Field Day
Grow Together. Play Together. Win Together.
Pediatric oncology is emotionally demanding, making strong mentorship essential for resilience, growth, and community. "Roots & Rivals" reimagines the typical congress reception as a vibrant, lighthearted field day designed to build trust and connection through playful competition.
When & Where: Wednesday, September 16, 2026 | 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM | Eagar Courtyard at Yanaguana Garden (Hemisfair, San Antonio—walking distance from SIOP).
Who: ~100 early-career members and senior leaders from the Young SIOP Network.
Team Challenges: Mentor-mentee duos tackle fun relay races (Potato Sack, Three-Legged Walk, Egg-and-Spoon Dash) and a ongoing Cornhole Tournament.
Inclusive Options: Low-impact "Minute to Win It" tabletop challenges ensure everyone can comfortably play, earn points, and network.
Finale & Reception: Features a group Tug-of-War championship, light refreshments, and a "Golden Potato" Awards Ceremony.
By swapping formal icebreakers for shared laughter, this event offers a restorative break from clinical routine—helping participants recharge and build lasting global relationships.
We look forward to seeing you there!
