    Grades: 2 - 5 COED
  • Description:

Redwood Christian Elementary invites COED 2nd-5th graders to join the Chess Club with the help of Mr. Steve Quen.  Mr. Quen was the #1 board for 4 years of his high school’s chess teams (Mt. Eden and Encinal) and achieved a peak rating of 2000 (Grandmaster is 2500+).  Retired, he now competes in weekend in-person tournaments and almost daily studies and plays online blitz games.  His current Rapids Rating is 1900+ (Lichess and chess.com).

To assist Mr. Quen with teaching chess, he will use the resources of chessmood.com.  This online resource provides interactive chess lessons developed by 5 grandmasters.  Students will interact with this resource using RCE iPads during the club.

This class requires no knowledge of the game. Step by step instruction with interactive and fun chess lessons, puzzles, and playing with each other will help your child learn chess fundamentals.  The class is also designed so parents can learn the game and play with them - an opportunity to bond!

Join the over 500 million who play this international game around the world!  You'll improve your chess skills, and work out your most powerful muscle - your brain! More than just a game of winning and losing, we make learning chess fun!

Sign up early to secure one of the 10 spots available.
