NGS does not expect every Scholar to perform at the same academic level. NGS does expect every Scholar and family to demonstrate productive engagement, academic progress, communication, and responsible use of the support NGS provides. Scholar Commitments To remain eligible for continued participation, the Scholar agrees to: • Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 or actively participate in an assigned Academic Engagement Plan. • Attend required NGS programming consistently and arrive on time. • Attend Summer Academy and any other summer program designated as required by NGS. Summer-program attendance is mandatory unless NGS approves an exception in writing in advance. • Attend tutoring, counseling, advising, or academic-support sessions when assigned. • Promptly communicate and reschedule when an excused absence prevents attendance. • Communicate with NGS when personal, academic, transportation, health, or family barriers affect participation or progress. • Address missing assignments, D/F grades, credit deficiencies, and required credit-recovery courses. • Provide grades, transcripts, progress reports, or other academic updates when requested. • Participate in creating and completing agreed academic or engagement milestones. • Respond to NGS communications in a timely manner. • Demonstrate honesty, respect, responsibility, and follow-through. Automatic Academic Engagement Plan Triggers A Scholar will be immediately assigned an Academic Engagement Plan when: • The Scholar’s cumulative GPA falls below 2.0; or • The Scholar accumulates a combined total of five incidents consisting of unexcused NGS class absences and/or failures to reschedule a missed required session. Additional Academic Engagement Plan Considerations NGS may also assign an Academic Engagement Plan when documented concerns indicate that a Scholar needs additional structure, accountability, or support. These concerns may include: • Repeated absence from or inconsistent participation in assigned tutoring, counseling, advising, academic-support sessions, or required family conferences. • One or more D or F grades, a declining GPA, or a pattern of academic performance that places the Scholar at risk. • A significant or growing number of missing assignments, missing coursework, or incomplete major assignments. • Credit deficiencies, required credit-recovery courses, failure to enroll in required credit recovery, or inconsistent participation in credit recovery. • Failure to attend required Summer Academy or other required summer programming, failure to obtain advance approval for an exception, or failure to submit required conflict or absence information by the published deadline. • Failure to provide requested grades, transcripts, progress reports, or other academic updates. • Repeated nonresponse to NGS communications or failure to communicate and reschedule missed required sessions. • Failure to complete agreed actions, milestones, or follow-up steps in an academic or engagement plan. • Other documented academic, attendance, communication, participation, or follow-through concerns that affect the Scholar’s progress or responsible use of NGS support. NGS will consider relevant circumstances and documented barriers—including health, disability, transportation, housing, caregiving, employment, family, language, technology, or school-access barriers—when reviewing these concerns. These factors may lead to an Academic Engagement Plan but are not, by themselves, automatic dismissal criteria. Assignment to an Academic Engagement Plan does not, by itself, result in automatic dismissal. The plan will identify required supports, actions, milestones, and a review period for continued enrollment. Family Commitments To support the Scholar’s continued participation, the parent or guardian agrees to: • Support regular attendance and punctuality for required NGS programming. • Support the Scholar’s attendance at required Summer Academy and summer programming, notify NGS of known conflicts as early as possible, and submit any required conflict, absence, or exception form by the deadline published by NGS. • Notify NGS about absences, contact-information changes, and significant barriers affecting participation. • Participate in required family conferences or academic-review meetings. • Help NGS obtain current grades, transcripts, progress reports, and other necessary academic information. • Support the Scholar’s participation in tutoring, counseling, advising, credit recovery, or an Academic Engagement Plan when assigned. • Keep guardian contact information and communication preferences current. • Communicate with NGS when the family needs clarification, accommodations, or additional support. We have reviewed and understand the Scholar and family commitments above. We understand that continued enrollment is based on both academic standing and meaningful engagement with NGS expectations and assigned support.

Scholar Community Commitment The Scholar agrees to act honestly, treat others with respect, care for NGS and others’ property, follow safety expectations, and take responsibility for their conduct. Cheating, theft, harassment, deliberate misrepresentation, serious disrespect, or conduct that threatens the safety, learning, operations, or community of NGS may result in an intervention, Academic Engagement Plan, suspension from activities, or dismissal. NGS reserves the right to dismiss a Scholar from participation at any time and for any reason NGS determines continued participation is inconsistent with the safety, academic environment, social environment, operations, mission, or best interests of the NGS community.

Scholar Community Commitment Acknowledgment

As part of the annual re-enrollment process, all parents/guardians are required to submit a copy of their most recently filed federal tax return from the previous tax year to NGS Family Services no later than November 30 of each school year.This requirement applies to all currently enrolled families and is part of the annual re-enrollment contract process. The purpose of this policy is to: Ensure that NGS maintains current and accurate family records; Help families prepare for future high school and college application processes, many of which require prior-year tax documentation; and Support continuity and organization in Family Services records.NGS does not audit family tax returns, and the financial information or income amounts reflected in the tax returns will not be used to make enrollment or re-enrollment decisions. However, compliance with the document submission requirement itself is mandatory. Failure to submit the required tax return documentation by the November 30 deadline may impact a student’s continued enrollment or re-enrollment in the program. All documents submitted to NGS will be maintained in accordance with applicable privacy and confidentiality practices. Do you authorize the Scholar to participate in NGS field trips, college visits, community events, and other off-site activities during the 2026–2027 program year?

Scholars without off-site participation authorization may be unable to participate in activities held away from the regular NGS program location. NGS may not be able to provide alternative programming or supervision during those activities.

Transportation Authorization NGS does not own vehicles. Transportation may be provided or arranged through staff-owned vehicles, vehicles driven by authorized volunteers, rental vehicles, chartered buses or vans, rideshare services, public transportation, walking groups, or transportation arranged by partner organizations.

Do you authorize the Scholar to use transportation provided or arranged by NGS for approved programs and activities during the 2026–2027 program year?

If you decline NGS-arranged transportation, you are responsible for transporting the Scholar to and from NGS programs and activities when individual family transportation is permitted. Some activities may require coordinated group transportation or may not allow separate arrival or departure. NGS will communicate those requirements in advance when practicable. NGS cannot guarantee an alternative transportation arrangement when family transportation is unavailable or incompatible with the activity. If a family cannot provide transportation for a particular activity, the Scholar may be unable to participate. NGS will not automatically treat that situation as an unexcused absence without considering the activity’s transportation requirements and the family’s timely communication.

Emergency Care Authorization

Emergency-care authorization is required for participation in NGS programming.

NGS may photograph or record Scholars during classes, events, field trips, and other program activities. When permission is granted, NGS may use approved images or recordings—and the Scholar’s first name—in NGS communications, educational materials, fundraising, social media, websites, and public promotion. This authorization applies only to NGS. It does not authorize partner organizations to independently publish the Scholar’s image or recording. Permission remains in effect through June 30, 2027. A parent or guardian may revoke permission in writing at any time for future use. Revocation does not affect material that NGS published, distributed, or authorized before receiving the written revocation. Declining media permission will not affect admission or participation.

NGS uses current academic and support information to evaluate applications, coordinate services, monitor progress, and support Scholars.
