    Position Overview

    Muslim Food Bank & Community Services Society is seeking a compassionate and culturally responsive Registered Clinical Counsellor to provide professional mental health counselling and emotional support to individuals accessing MFBCS programs and services.

    The counsellor will support clients experiencing a range of emotional, psychological, and psychosocial concerns through client-centred, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed counselling.

    This is a hybrid, contract-based position with compensation provided on a per-session basis.

    About the Role

    The Registered Clinical Counsellor provides professional counselling to clients from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and community backgrounds.

    The role focuses on establishing strong therapeutic relationships, understanding each client's individual needs, and providing appropriate support while maintaining professional ethics, confidentiality, and client privacy.


    Duties & Responsibilities

    Clinical Counselling

    • Provide individual counselling sessions to clients experiencing mental health, emotional, and psychosocial concerns.
    • Conduct initial assessments to understand presenting concerns, needs, goals, and support requirements.
    • Develop counselling goals and treatment plans collaboratively with clients.
    • Provide culturally sensitive, client-centred, and trauma-informed counselling.
    • Support clients experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, relationship challenges, family concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, and life transitions.
    • Use appropriate evidence-based counselling approaches and therapeutic techniques based on individual client needs.
    • Monitor client progress and adjust counselling approaches when appropriate.
    • Maintain professional boundaries and follow ethical standards throughout the counselling relationship.
    • Identify clients requiring additional or specialized mental health services and provide appropriate referrals.
    • Respond appropriately to risk, crisis, or safety concerns according to professional standards and organizational procedures.

    Client Support & Documentation

    • Maintain accurate, confidential, and current client records.
    • Document counselling sessions and relevant client information according to professional and organizational requirements.
    • Maintain strict confidentiality and protect sensitive client information.
    • Coordinate with MFBCS staff and relevant program teams when client services require collaboration while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
    • Participate in case discussions, team meetings, and program planning when required.
    • Provide culturally appropriate mental health information and resources to clients.
    • Support the development or delivery of mental health workshops, educational sessions, and community resources when required.
    • Maintain accurate records of completed counselling sessions for administrative and payment purposes.
    • Perform other counselling and client-support duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    Education & Registration

    • Master's degree in Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Psychology, or a related mental health field.
    • Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) designation or eligibility for registration with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC).

    Experience

    • Previous professional experience providing individual counselling services.
    • Experience working with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and community backgrounds.
    • Experience providing trauma-informed and culturally responsive counselling is preferred.
    • Experience within nonprofit, community services, healthcare, or social services environments is considered an asset.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Fluency in Arabic is required, including the ability to provide professional counselling services in Arabic.
    • Strong counselling, active listening, and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Strong understanding of mental health concerns and appropriate counselling practices.
    • Ability to establish trust and rapport while maintaining professional boundaries.
    • Strong cultural awareness and sensitivity.
    • Compassionate, respectful, and non-judgmental approach to client care.
    • Strong assessment, documentation, and case management skills.
    • Ability to recognize and appropriately respond to client risk and crisis situations.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with MFBCS staff and program teams.
    • Commitment to professional ethics, confidentiality, and client privacy.
    • Proficiency with electronic documentation systems and virtual counselling platforms.

    Working Conditions

    Contract: Contract-based position

    Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with counselling provided virtually and in person as required

    Compensation: Paid on a per-session basis

    Schedule: Coordinated based on client needs and counsellor availability

    • The counsellor must maintain all professional registration, licensing, insurance, and other requirements applicable to their practice.
    • Occasional participation in meetings, workshops, or community initiatives might be required.
