Casualty Simulation (Moulage) Two Day Course

Class size is limited to the first 16 registrants. 

This course has no registration fee. Participant registration costs are being supported through funding from the Central Virginia Healthcare Coalition (CVHC), administered through the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association (VHHA).

This two-day, hands-on course is designed for EMS educators, instructors, simulation personnel, and others involved in scenario-based training who want to create more realistic and effective training environments.

Day 1 – Tuesday, September 29, 2026

Instruction and Hands-On Training
9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (lunch included)

Participants will receive classroom and hands-on instruction covering casualty simulation techniques, materials, safety considerations, staging, and methods for creating realistic simulated injuries.

Day 2 – Wednesday, September 30, 2026

Regional MCI Exercise
6:30 AM–approximately 10:00 AM

Participants will apply the skills learned on Day 1 by assisting with casualty simulation for a regional Mass Casualty Incident (MCI) exercise.

Location:
The Day 2 exercise will be held at separate locations. Specific location, parking, and reporting instructions will be provided to registered participants during class.

Travel and Lodging:
Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the Day 2 exercise location. Participants who require overnight lodging are responsible for arranging and paying for their own accommodations.

About:

Effective casualty simulation involves much more than simply applying makeup. This course focuses on the elements that work together to create realistic training environments, including planning, moulage, staging, and symptomatic acting.

Participants will explore the safe use and application of moulage materials; infection control, allergies, and participant safety; planning and staging realistic casualty scenarios; blending, feathering, and highlighting techniques; creation of simulated bruises, lacerations, burns, wounds, fractures, and other injuries; use of props and environmental details; symptomatic acting; and hands-on creation of simulated injuries.

What makes this course especially unique is the opportunity to immediately apply these skills. On Day 2, participants will provide moulage for live simulated victims during a regional MCI exercise.

Registration for this course is limited, and participants are expected to attend both days of the program. Please register ONLY if you expect to be available for the full course on September 29–30, 2026.

If you are unable to attend after registering, please notify Old Dominion EMS Alliance as soon as possible so that your space may be offered to another participant.

This is a two-day program. Day 1 will be held Tuesday, September 29, from 9:00 AM–5:00 PM at the Old Dominion EMS Alliance office in Henrico and will consist of classroom instruction and hands-on casualty simulation training.

Day 2 will be held Wednesday, September 30, from 6:30 AM–approximately 10:00 AM at a separate location as part of a regional Mass Casualty Incident exercise. The Day 2 location, parking information, and reporting instructions will be provided to registered participants.

Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the Day 2 exercise location and for arranging and paying for overnight lodging, if needed.

By registering, I understand that participation in both days is expected and that I am responsible for my own transportation and lodging arrangements.
