reFramed Residency Application -Figurative Artists
Hi there!
We're very happy want to be part of this.
As a suggestion, we recommend using a word document to write your answers and then paste them on the form, in case you lose internet connection and don’t have to restart from scracth. You will also need to have at hand some examples of your work. If you make a mistake after you hit Submit, you can submit a new one. We will consider the latest we have from you once we start reviewing.
Much luck and looking forward to getting to know you better!
The Residency
This Residency is part of reFramed’s public programmes. It aims to put models and artists in conversation, slow paced and intensely. You will have the chance of drawing/painting from the human form for more than 8 hours a day, if you wish to. You can also extend those hours, if feeling brave, by booking 1:1 sessions with Residency models. You’ll also have the chance of capturing reference photography for your personal work and projects you envision with models that allow photography.
But beyond the actual practice, you’re also here to learn about figurative art from the other side of the easel. Being a profoundly vulnerable practice, one in which two individuals gradually begin to inform, challenge and reshape one another, the bond created between artist and model offers an opportunity for exchange that is deeply intimate and unusual. It has the power of transforming your work like no other force, if you’re able to understand that bond.
One of reFramed’s core goals is to shine a light on this transcendent relationship, which we believe has been disregarded, much to everyone’s loss.
The value and nature of the human exchange are perhaps more estranged and rarely found than ever before, but also more deeply revered. We are just another actor recognising our uniqueness.
Practical Details
Dates and Location
For our 2nd EDITION, The Residency will take place between the 10-16 May 2027 in Greece.
All meals, snacks and drinks are covered. Transport from Athens is included as well, and we expect you to be in central Athens for our group transfer by 3-4pm on the 10th.
Models and Artists stay on the same accommodation, in a little town at the end of the road, surrounded by mountains, forests and ancient trails, and with a trustworthy local taverna (you’ll soon find what those are). We’ll be tucked away in the forests of the Peloponnese, mere 10km away from ruins built at a time when the human figure was becoming central to Western art. Expect food rooted in local recipes and ingredients, with plenty of fresh produce from the surrounding area.
We’ll have a dedicated studio with easels and several simultaneous drawing spots you’ll be able to draw at. Solvents, drawing boards and basic cleaning materials are included. We’ll guide you on how to either bring your own art materials or ship them to the venue in advance. No, you won’t have enough paper, no matter your calculations.
More information about our venue will be announced later in the month.
