Join NAMI NYS’s Lunch and Learn series—a monthly webinar designed to help advocates better understand key mental health policy issues.
For individuals and families, involvement with the criminal justice system can be overwhelming and difficult to navigate, particularly when behavioral health needs are also present. The Sequential Intercept Model (SIM) provides a framework for understanding the intersection of the behavioral health and criminal justice systems and identifies key points where individuals may be connected to treatment, services, and supports.
This session will introduce participants to the six intercepts of the SIM, from community-based behavioral health and crisis services through law enforcement, courts, incarceration, reentry, and community supervision. The session will also highlight how collaboration across systems can help communities develop more responsive approaches that connect people to care and support throughout their involvement with the criminal justice system.
Bring your lunch, your questions, and your perspective.
