    Art Auction Gallery Exhibit

Join us as we celebrate the 25th annual Black & White Affair benefiting Studio 23/The Arts Center! The Black & White Affair Art Auction is a fundraising tradition that is known for high quality art and as a gallery showcase for regional artists. This is an opportunity to grow your visibility in the community of art collectors in the Great Lakes Bay Region while helping to support Studio 23 in our mission of making the arts relevant and accessible to all.

This year's virtual fundraiser will focus on small works, with a size limit of 20" on the longest side for 2D and 3D artwork.

Artwork featured in the virtual auction will also be displayed in the Tabor Gallery of Studio 23. Artwork may be reserved for silent auction at the Black & White Affair and displayed separately. Placement of artwork is at the discretion of Studio 23 staff.

Artists donating one artwork for the Black & White Affair art auction will have the option of presenting another piece of artwork for sale at the usual gallery split of 60% to artist and 40% to Studio 23 (listed as "Buy it now" artwork). All "Buy it now" artwork will be included on the virtual art auction webpage.

A limited number of tickets to the Black & White Affair have been reserved for artist donors. The first 12 applicants will be contacted by Studio 23 with the option to receive one free ticket to the event. Artists MUST RSVP in order to receive their ticket. Tickets are non-transferable. Guests of artists must purchase an additional ticket.

Artist warrants that they have created and have unencumbered title to all artwork in the exhibit.

Artwork must be delivered to Studio 23 on the date designated on the contract or agreed upon between the Artist and the Curator of Exhibits. The cost of shipping artwork is at artist’s expense.

Artwork must be ready for the exhibit. Each piece should be identified on the reverse side or bottom. All wall-displayed works of art must be presented framed or gallery-wrapped. A framed work must have a wire on the back, French cleat, or appropriately sized sawtooth hanging hardware. No raw glass edges are acceptable. All other systems must be discussed with the Curator of Exhibits before a decision is reached.

      Insurance for Exhibits:
Artist is responsible for the proper insurance coverage during the period of transportation and exhibition. Studio 23 is not responsible for any loss, theft, or damage to the works of art while in its possession or on display; specifically, from the date of delivery to Studio 23 until the date of delivery to the purchaser or return to the Artist.

All reasonable care will be taken with artwork. We strongly suggest that artists insure their work privately for adequate protection in all potential situations.

      Liability:
Studio 23 is acting solely as a representative of the Artist, and neither it nor its members shall be liable for loss or damage to artwork, storage crates, personal belongings, or other related items on the premises (or exhibited elsewhere within the sole discretion and under the control of Studio 23) due to theft, loss, fire, or destruction of any cause.

      Reproduction Rights:
The Artist reserves rights of reproduction of consigned artwork. Studio 23 may publish photographs of all artwork for promotional and/or education purposes, as it may deem appropriate.

      Publicity:
Studio 23 will provide online marketing with social media that includes Facebook and Instagram. Our website, blog, and mass emails will also include promotion of the exhibit. Printed materials are determined as needed or as sponsors are obtained. Press releases will be sent to regional news outlets.

      Sales of optional cosigned work:

All sales are consigned at sixty percent (60%) of sale to the Artist and forty percent (40%) of sale to Studio 23. Tax is collected by Studio 23. The Artist should allow a minimum of three weeks beyond close of the exhibit (to allow for processing of all sales) before Artist’s commission will be distributed.

If a collector makes an inquiry with Studio 23 about a work after the close of the exhibit and the work is available for purchase, the Artist will receive a sixty percent (60%) commission and a forty percent (40%) commission will go to Studio 23.

      Return of Artwork:
The return date of the artwork will be designated in the signed contract. If that date doesn’t work, the Curator of Exhibits and the Artist will determine a workable date within the week following the close of exhibit. Artwork shipped to Studio 23 for exhibit must include proper packaging and a return shipping label in order to be returned to the artist.

Artwork that is left at Studio 23 beyond 30 days will be considered a donation to Studio 23.

      Hold Harmless Agreement:
The Artist agrees to hold Studio 23, its board of directors, staff, and volunteers harmless for damage, theft, or loss of artwork. The artist understands the risk of submitting/exhibiting artwork and accepts it through signing acceptance of the contract offered.
