Biography 
Howard Clinton Barnhill, Sr. graduated from North Carolina A&T State University in 1938 with a Bachelor of Science degree in the biological sciences. Mr. Barnhill’s distinguished service to our Alma Mater includes: North Carolina A&T State University Board of Trustees; President, North Carolina A&T State University Alumni Association, and chairperson of the fundraising campaign of the Alumni Association, which later became known as the Annual Giving Campaign. Mr. Barnhill also served as President of the Queen City (Charlotte, North Carolina) chapter of the alumni association. During his twelve (12) year tenure, from 1957 to 1969, as President of the Alumni Association, Mr. Barnhill mobilized and unified the alumni to establish eighteen (18) new chapters. He considered the “regional concept” his most significant contribution to the alumni association, citing an improved network of communications furnished by the regional organizations. “As the Number One Alumnus and National President of the A&T Alumni Association, he propelled the organization toward renewed greatness and unparalleled expansion. He greatly enhanced the nationally famous reputation of A&T Alumni as exceptionally devoted, enthusiastic, spirited fans of the University. As a member of the A&T State University Trustee Board, he was a pillar of concern for the constant upgrading of the University’s goals and performances. His loyalty and commitment to concerns of the students, the faculty, the staff, the administration, and the alumni were positive and unquestioned.” -Lewis C. Award Criteria

• Must demonstrate active involvement with the University and/or the Office of Alumni Relations. This may include serving on a committee, participating in a local alumni chapter, acting as an Aggie Certified Alumni Recruiter, and volunteering for university-sponsored events such as Homecoming or Alumni Reunion Weekend. 
• Must have rendered outstanding service to North Carolina A&T State University, the Office of Alumni Relations, and/or a local alumni chapter. 
• Must submit two (2) letters of recommendation that speak to the nominee’s character, service, and commitment to the University and the broader community. 
• Must have contributed to the University’s Annual Giving Campaign for at least two consecutive years.  
• Previous recipients are not eligible to receive the same award.
