A FREE storytelling, art engagement, and Southern Resident Killer Whale conservation education event for CHILDREN to ELDERS. Join us on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Environmental Science Center at Seahurst Park, 1600 SW Seahurst Park Rd, Burien, WA 98166.
Join us inside to hear the story of the Southern Resident Killer Whale mother Tahlequah J35 and her calf J61, lovingly called Aldebaran or "Bara" for short, after the bright orange star of winter, written by Julie Seitz and narrated by Deborah Horne, retired award-winning veteran KIRO 7 TV reporter. Following the story, each participant will paint real-life baby orca markings on their FREE eco-friendly fabric baby orca stuffie to take home! Additionally, participants will add messages of hope to paper baby orca cutouts and attach them to a large mobile community art board, creating a growing sea of baby orcas! As low tide occurs, we will move outside to the beach for a short environmental presentation, a beach walk, and a meet and greet with FieldLab founder and environmental researcher Julianne Ubigau and Jasper, environmental scent detection dog.
Registration is limited to the first 50 participants. Each participant who signs up and attends will receive one FREE eco-friendly fabric BABY ORCA STUFFIE to paint and take home.
