No matter your availability, interests, or skill set, there is a place for you to get involved at our church! Following is a list of service opportunities in the various ministries at our church. Note: Be on the lookout for seasonal opportunities throughout the year.
Adult Discipleship
Adult Discipleship: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
Seasonal Small Group Leader: Facilitate a Bible or book study/group discussion for 8-12 people. Class time is one hour per week for six to eight weeks. Weekly preparation required. Materials, lesson plans, and training provided.
Sunday School Teacher/Substitute: Prepare and facilitate lessons for adult Sunday School classes. Classes meet Sundays 9:45-10:45 a.m. Teaching frequency is based on your availability.
Library Team Volunteer: Grow and promote the library and perform tasks necessary for its smooth operation. Flexible hours available. Training provided.
Women’s Ministries’ Leader: Serve in a leadership role in one of our small groups, United Women of Faith circles, and a moms’ group. Help plan gatherings and the annual women’s retreat.
Young Adult Mission Trip & Retreat Team Member: Help plan trips, focusing on logistics, finances, and devotions.
Audio/Video Production
Audio/Video Production: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
8:45 Service Projection Software Operator: Work with the Director of Production to facilitate the projection of slides and video content. Time commitment: Serve one or two Sunday mornings per month (or more if willing); must be present for rehearsal and worship. Experience is helpful but not necessary. Training provided.
Sanctuary Sound System Operator: Work with the Director of Production to provide sound reinforcement for Sunday morning worship services. Time commitment: Serve one or two Sunday mornings per month (or more if willing). Experience is helpful but not necessary. Training is provided.
Livestream Video Operator: Work with the Director of Production to operate cameras in worship services at 8:30, 9:45 and 11 a.m. in the sanctuary or at 8:45 a.m. in Jubilee Hall. Time commitment: serve one or two Sunday mornings per month (or more if willing). Experience is helpful but not necessary. Two to three trainings/shadowings required.
Children's Ministries
Children's Ministries: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
Children's Council Member: Work with church staff to plan and implement programs and activities for children. Attend four meetings per year and help with events and activities. Commitment is three years. Training provided.
Sunday Morning Hospitality Team Member: Help families with automated check-in and take attendance and collect offerings from preschool and elementary classes. Only one volunteer needed each week so time commitment varies. One-year commitment. Training provided.
Sunday School Committee Member: Work with a committee to identify and invite adults to teach Sunday School. Also, encourage and support teachers by providing gifts or acts of appreciation. Spend several hours weekly recruiting from March to June. Three-year commitment. Training provided.
Sunday School Teacher: Work in teams of four to six to facilitate Sunday School lessons for children. Serve twice a month September-May. Some preparation time outside the classroom required. Annual training class and curriculum provided.
Welcome Worshiper Bag Team Member: Prepare activity bags for young children to take into worship services. Volunteers commit to coming in two-three times in a given month. Training provided.
Elementary Retreat Chaperone: Help children connect with God, the church, their peers, and chaperones on day-long or weekend trips. Training provided.
Mission: Possible Leaders: Help plan and supervise mission projects for elementary children. Mission: Possible is held monthly for one hour. Training provided.
Forward Ministry Small Group Leader: Help 4th and 5th graders grow their faith through games, Bible lessons, small group discussions and service projects. Forward meets one hour once a month October-May. Training and curriculum provided.
Faith Girls Facilitator (Female): Lead fifth-grade girls in weekly Bible study. Faith Girls meets one hour per week for four weeks each semester (fall and spring). Training and curriculum provided.
God’s Guys Facilitator (Male): Lead fifth-grade boys in weekly Bible study. God’s Guys meets one hour per week for four weeks each semester (fall and spring). Training and curriculum provided.
Camp Tekoa Planning Team Member: Work with church staff to plan the annual Camp Tekoa weekend, which is in the fall (typically September). Training provided.
Vacation Bible School Planning Team Member: Work with staff to plan and implement this summertime Bible-based day camp. Attend monthly meetings March-June. Attendance at all four days of Vacation Bible School is required. Training provided.
Vacation Bible School Volunteer: Implement the curriculum provided by the Vacation Bible School planning team. Attending an orientation meeting and some preparation are required. Must attend all four days of Vacation Bible School, if possible. Training provided.
Vacation Bible School 4th/5th Grade Leader: Plan hands-on experiences for fourth and fifth graders. Attend planning meetings before Vacation Bible School and attend all four days of Vacation Bible School. Training provided.
Congregational Care & Health Ministry
Congregational Care & Health Ministry: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
Care Team Member: Serve on a confidential team designed to respond to the needs of a congregation member and/or family experiencing health issues or crisis. Offering fellowship is at the heart of this ministry. Time commitment is flexible. Training provided
Health Ministry Team Member: Serve on the team that coordinates health and wellness programs at church. Team meets several times per year and events are scheduled throughout the year. No training required.
Hospital Visitation Team Member: Visit by phone with those who are experiencing a hospitalization or health concern. Calls are made on Mondays, Fridays, and weekends; you choose the days you can serve each month and sign up through SignUp Genius. Training provided.
Casserole Team Member: Make casseroles to stock in our freezer for delivery to new parents, the ill, or the bereaved. Time commitment is flexible. Training provided.
New Parent Visitation Team Member: Deliver casseroles and express the church's love to families welcoming a new addition. Time commitment is flexible. Training provided.
Prayer Shawl Team Member: Knitters/crocheters create shawls for anyone who needs one. Meet for two hours each Tuesday. Beginners welcome.
Funeral Support Volunteer: Ushers serve before and during funerals, handing out bulletins, lighting candles, helping with seating, and more. Hostesses set up and serve refreshments at funeral receptions/visitations. Serve as available; about two hours per service. Training provided.
Prayer Team Member: Answer through your confidential prayers the requests that come in from church members and others. Time commitment is flexible; prayer requests are sent out weekly. Training provided.
Care Blooms Ministry Leader: Coordinate volunteers and perform administrative tasks for our altar flower repurposing ministry. Time commitment is flexible. Training provided.
Blood Drive Team Member/Volunteer: The church hosts an annual blood drive. Serve on the team that organizes the event, signs up donors, and provides hospitality. Time commitment: a few hours annually. Training provided.
Stephen Minister: Walk alongside someone in need through a caring, one-on-one relationship. Time commitment: twice-monthly meetings and regular visits with your care receiver. Stephen Ministers receive 50 hours of initial training.
Emerging Ministries

Artist All-Call Volunteer: Use your artistic gift or interest to serve God and others.
Visual Arts Contributor: Contribute photography or visual art for printed bulletins, media projection and other special projects.
Labyrinth Ministry Team Volunteer: Help facilitate and nurture the church labyrinth, host special labyrinth walks during Advent and Holy Week, and write devotionals for labyrinth walks.
Missions & Outreach

Room In the Inn Volunteer: In partnership with Roof Above, help us welcome 14 unhoused neighbors each week between December and March. Opportunities include bringing and serving dinner or breakfast, staying overnight, making beds, and more. Time commitment is one night or morning. Training provided prior to shift.
McCreesh Place Birthday Party Volunteer: Join us to celebrate neighbors’ birthdays at McCreesh Place. Opportunities include bringing and/or serving dinner, fellowshipping with the neighbors, or playing a round of Spades. Parties are monthly 5:30-7 p.m. Sign up to attend as many as you’d like! Training provided on site.
Make Sandwiches for Roof Above: Help assemble 400 sandwiches for the Roof Above Day Services Center. Sandwich supplies provided. Sandwich-making occurs monthly on Wednesdays and quarterly on Sundays 10-11 a.m. Sign up to help as many times as you’d like. Training provided on site.
Serve Dinner at the Roof Above Men’s Shelter: Prepare food and tables and serve meals to the men staying at the shelter. We serve meals on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sign up for as many shifts as you’d like. Training provided on site.
Nourish Up Warehouse Volunteer: Work on an assembly line to pack food supply boxes or to inspect and sort food donations. Shifts are monthly 1-3 p.m. Sign up for as many shifts as you’d like. Training provided on site.
For the Love of Literacy Tutor: Provide literacy tutoring to kindergarteners and first graders at Druid Hills Academy. Tutor weekly 10-11 a.m. or 1-2 p.m. You choose the day of the week. Training provided on site.
Heart Math Tutor: Help elementary school students in CMS build foundational math skills and confidence. Tutor one student all school year for one hour a week. Training provided.
Bring Dinner to The Relatives Youth Crisis Center: Join a small group of volunteers to bring dinner to the children and teens staying at the shelter. Stay to enjoy the meal with the youth and staff. We provide dinner on the first Wednesday of each month. Sign up as many times as you’d like.
Serve Lunch at Trinity’s Table at South Tryon Community UMC: Help greet and serve neighbors at Trinity’s Table, a feeding and fellowship ministry every Thursday. Training provided on site.
Goodness Gracious Gifts Volunteer: Work in the gift shop, where all proceeds support local outreach. Time Commitment: Flexible; 3½-hour shifts as your schedule allows. Training: Provided
Global Mission Trip Participant: Engage with our global partners: Zoe Empowers (Kenya), Faith Ministry (Mexico), Costa Rica Mission Projects, Iglesia de Metodista Obispo Francis Asbury and Iglesia Metodista San Pablo (Puerto Rico), and Project Agape (Armenia).
Music Ministry

Sing in Our Chancel Choir: Time commitment: weekly Sunday mornings and Wednesday evening rehearsals and special events throughout the year. Previous choir experience is helpful, but no audition is required.
Sing in Our Children’s Choirs (for K–5th graders): Time commitment: occasional Sundays, weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals, and special events throughout the year.
Play in Our String Ensemble: Time commitment: occasional Sundays, bi-monthly rehearsals, and special events throughout the year. Previous string instrument experience required.
Sing and Lead Worship in Our 8:45 Service: Time commitment: occasional Sunday mornings and Tuesday evening rehearsals. Prior vocal and worship leading experience required. Audition required.
Play an Instrument and Lead Worship in Our 8:45 Service: Time commitment: occasional Sunday mornings and Tuesday evening rehearsals. Audition required.
Ring Handbells in Myers Park Bells or Bellissimo: Time commitment: occasional Sunday mornings and Tuesday or Sunday evening rehearsals.
Ring Handbells in a Children’s or Youth’s Ensemble: Time commitment: occasional Sunday mornings and Wednesday or Sunday evening rehearsals.
Children's Ensemble Assistant: Provide adult supervision during children's choir or children's handbell rehearsals and/or participation in services. Commit for nine months; help weekly during that rehearsal time.
Worship
Worship: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
Communion Server: Help serve Communion in worship services. Time commitment: one hour on the assigned Sunday. Serve as many times a year as you’d like. Training provided
Communion Steward: Help set up Communion in the sanctuary and Jubilee Hall, change out elements after each service, and clean up. Time commitment: eight to ten times a year, hour and a half each time. Training provided.
Lay Reader: Read the assigned Scripture passage during a worship service in the sanctuary or Jubilee Hall. Time commitment: some advance preparation needed (pronunciations, etc.) and a one-hour worship service on the assigned Sunday. Training provided
Youth Server (5th-12th Graders): Participate in sanctuary services with specific worship leader responsibilities: crucifer, acolyte, or Bible carrier. Time commitment: Participants can expect to serve every six to eight weeks depending on their availability. Service year is September-June. Training provided.
Youth Server Coach: Oversee youth servers during services on assigned Sunday. Time commitment: Serve every four to six weeks. One-year commitment. Training provided.
Usher/Greeter: Welcome worshipers and assist with seating, baptism preparation, and collecting the offering. Time commitment: minimum of one month each year. Training provided.
Youth Ministries
Youth Ministries: I am interested in learning more about and/or serving as: (Click all that apply.)
Christmas Tree Sale Volunteer: Collect money, pick out trees, trim trees, and/or deliver trees. Time commitment: a few hours up to a weekend during the season.
Confirmation Mentor: Journey alongside a small group of eighth graders as they dig deep and learn about their Christian faith. Time commitment: weekly on Sunday nights and two weekend retreats during one school year.
High School Small Group Leader: Meet with a small group of students in the same grade to help develop relationships and accountability. Time commitment: weekly during the school year for four years.
Sunday Morning (Starting Point) Ministry Partner: Assist in teaching and facilitating weekly Sunday school classes for middle schoolers (6th, 7th and 8th graders) or high schoolers (9th-12th graders). Time commitment: monthly or bi-monthly Sunday mornings.
Sunday Night Youth Group Leader: Help with games, activities and devotions. Time commitment: weekly on Sunday nights for one school year.
