• YouthKAN 2026-2027 Application

    The YouthKAN (Korean Action Network) program, run through the Korean Community Service Center of Washington State, is now accepting applications for its 9-month-long community engagement program. This year, YouthKAN is restructuring to give Asian American youth a consistent, supportive space to develop a stronger sense of identity, build peer relationships, and grow the creative and leadership skills to engage confidently with issues affecting themselves and their communities. Through the program, youth focus on meeting these goals through storytelling. Specifically, youth will be empowered to explore Playback Theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed, improvisation, and facilitation. Youth will turn what they learn into creative projects, advocacy efforts, service activities, and other community experiences. We welcome up to 20 participants, and up to 12 of these members will have the opportunity to join an intensive Applied Theatre Ensemble, receiving additional training in Playback Theatre and Theatre of the Oppressed and working together to create original performances and participatory experiences for the community. No previous theatre experience is required. We're looking for Asian American high school students (grades 9-12), who are curious, interested in community issues, and excited to create together! YouthKAN will kickoff with its first meeting on October 7th, 2026, 5:00-6:30 at the KCSC Office at the Lynnwood Neighborhood Center (19509 64th Ave W #270, Lynnwood, WA, 98036). Selected members will be invited to an all day retreat on October 10th and 11th, 10:00AM - 5:00PM for training and orientation. After the first meeting and retreat, all YouthKAN members meet twice a month, on 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 5:00-6:30 pm at the KCSC office in Lynnwood, October through June. Applied Theatre Ensemble (the select 12 youth), take on additional meetings on 1st and 3rd Wednesdays from 5:00-7:00 pm also at the KCSC office in Lynwood, January through June, plus extra rehearsals before community performances. YouthKAN members working in project teams may meet up to one additional time per month from January through May. This application will close on September 15th, 2026 at 11:59 pm PST. Selected applicants will be notified by Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026.

  • YouthKAN 2026 Application

    The YouthKAN (Korean Action Network) program, run through the Korean Community Service Center of Washington State, is now accepting applications for its year-long leadership and community engagement program. We highly encourage Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander students in grades 9 through 12 who are local to the Greater Seattle area to apply (12th-grade council members will only be expected to be with us from January-June 2026). The program will run from January 2026 through December 2026 and will be divided into four quarters, each lasting three months. Every quarter will feature a cohort of “chair members,” students who take on leadership roles in guiding the general group through a selected theme, such as AANHPI youth mental health. In alignment with the theme, chair members will lead monthly meetings that include discussions, workshops, and event planning, and they will organize monthly community events featuring keynote speakers, cultural celebrations, and interactive activities. If selected, attendance at all program meetings will be mandatory. In addition, all participants will attend the 2026 YouthKAN Retreat at Camp Indianola on Bainbridge Island from January 17 at 3:00 p.m. to January 19 at noon. This retreat will be an opportunity for team building, reflection, and bonding with the new cohort. Food and lodging will be provided for all admitted participants, and additional information about transportation and logistics will be shared upon acceptance. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. PST. Applicants will be notified of their decision through email on December 22, 2025.

    YouthKAN members commit to meeting twice a month (2nd and 4th Wednesdays, 5:00-6:30 pm, at the KCSC office). That said, we understand youth have other commitments and we want YouthKAN to be a space that works for you! Help us understand your availability.

    All applicants are required to participate in a 15-minute virtual interview with the KCSC Youth Program Coordinator. This will serve as a chance for us to get to know you better!
