In the Pacific Northwest, trees are not just scenery—they are the architects of our ecosystem, holders of ancient memory and silent witnesses to the changing seasons. Student groups are invited to explore the magic of The Dreaming Tree.
Olympia Artspace Alliance invites student artists, classrooms, and groups to explore the magic of The Dreaming Tree through the 2026–2027 Winter Art in Olympia Storefronts exhibition.
Time spent lying beneath a tree sparks the imagination. Whether it’s a granddaddy fir dripping with moss, a young cherry tree laden with its first blooms, or a nurse log providing nutrients for new growth time spent amongst our quiet neighbors is precious.
What do you dream about while looking up into the canopy?
What memories does an elder recall while resting against an ancient trunk?
Artists are invited to explore both the literal and symbolic gifts trees provide:
- Oxygen, shelter, shade, and nourishment
- Forest ecosystems and biodiversity
- Underground mycelium and root networks
Individual pieces, collaborative installations, painting, drawing, photography, fiber art, collage, printmaking, sculpture, and mixed media works are all welcome.
Whether students and groups create a single shared piece or a collection of individual works connected by a common idea, we encourage artists to imagine, experiment, and tell stories through art.
We suggest you VISIT THE SITE before submitting your proposal. This will enhance your understanding of the windows and their scale (reach out if you would like a tour). Please make sure you also read the entirety of the Call-For-Art before submitting your proposal.
*In this application you will need to include a mock up of your window proposal as well as at least one work sample. The mock up can be hand drawn or digitally generated but the jury needs to be able to get a sense of how your work will be presented.
