  • Volunteer Opportunities

    Please read through the following options and then select the ones that sound appealing to you.
  • 1. Client Driver

    Where: Across York Region

    As a volunteer driver, you will help people get to and from appointments, social engagements, and reach essential services in the community. You will be there at a time of need, providing company and reliable transport to those in your community.

    You will drive your own vehicle and be reimbursed for mileage by the client.

    2. Food Delivery Driver

    Where: Richmond Hill, Aurora, Stouffville & Newmarket

    As a delivery driver, you will bring food pantry hampers, community take-out meals and groceries to residents who otherwise would not be able to access these programs due to transportation barriers.

    You will drive your own vehicle; this program currently does not have mileage reimbursement.

    3. Friendly Caller

    Where: Anywhere

    As a Friendly Call volunteer you engage in friendly conversations over the phone with people who may be feeling lonely, isolated or would simply like someone to talk to. We are looking for friendly, caring volunteers to provide support and friendship. Volunteers do NOT give advice nor counselling. Any crisis situations will be immediately deferred to appropriate authorities, emergency or crisis services.

    4. Fundraising Support

    Where: Richmond Hill & Newmarket

    Attend Bingo World in Newmarket or Richmond Hill to help Routes earn shares from their charitable giving programs. Support operations at Bingo World, greet patrons, keep a head count and help tidy the machines and bingo tables to ensure a positive experience for the users. Each shift results in a charitable donation being made to Routes!

    Honorarium gift card provided per shift.

    5. Food Service Support

    Where: Georgina

    Support the weekly pay-what-you-can community lunch on Wednesdays at The Link in Sutton. You can help with front-of-house duties like set-up and teardown and greeting the guests, kitchen-duties like food preparation and cooking with the team (food handler's certification required), or what we call Dish Paradise, ensuring all of the food prep materials and dishes are sanitized effectively after lunch.

    6. Outreach & Event Support

    Where: Across York Region

    Share the word about Routes' programs and services at various events throughout the year. Help us to connect with local community members and encourage them to either utilize our services or support them as a volunteer. Attend farmer's markets, service provider fairs, and present to service clubs and other groups to spread the word.

    7. Community Ambassador

    Where: Newmarket, Georgina & Richmond Hill

    As a Community Ambassador, you'll play an important role in supporting community engagement efforts through outreach, information-sharing, and collaboration. You’ll act as a bridge between residents and local initiatives—making sure everyone knows how to get involved and have their say!

    Monthly honorarium provided for those who meet their hourly commitment.

    8. Board Member

    Where: York Region & Surrounding Area

    Directors act in a position of trust for the community and are responsible for the effective governance and leadership of our organization. Directors are fully informed on organization matters and participates in the Board’s deliberations and decisions in matters of policy, finance, programs, fundraising and advocacy. Directors’ skills and experience enhance the resources for Routes and as such, Directors are available to the Executive Director for advice and counsel.
