Overview
Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) recognizes the importance of career technical education (CTE) courses at the middle school level that provide students the opportunity for exploration, exposure to future careers, and the development of essential skills.
Middle school CTE programs provide a foundation for secondary programs, equipping students with technical and employability skills and empowering them to make educated decisions about their future career goals. These programs connect learning to the real world, enabling students to apply and integrate academic knowledge in practical contexts.
Idaho Division of Career Technical Education (IDCTE) accepts applications from Idaho school districts for new exploratory (7th and 8th grade) career technical education (CTE) programs every year. An approval of a new program means it will be included in the distribution of State program added-cost funds and may be eligible for other funding. LEAs need to submit this application, signed by the superintendent, by the annual deadline of February 15.
Please Note: If your LEA does not have an approved exploratory CTE program on file with IDCTE and would like to be considered for future program added-cost funding, this is the time to apply!
Before applying for a new CTE Program for grades 7-8, LEAs should first review the Middle School Career Technical Education Implementation Guide.
General Instructions
Use this form to request a new CTE exploratory program.
If you are requesting multiple exploratory CTE programs or making changes to current approved programs, you must complete a separate application for each one. *Please note that funding for newly approved CTE programs will be contingent upon the availability of appropriated funds.
The State Board of Education's policy allows the Division to approve program applications by considering existing funding. IDCTE is willing to grant an approved status to each of your program applications on the condition that the district is willing and able to start the program(s) without program added-cost funds from the Division. New CTE program funding support may include but is not limited to the following:
- An LEA may use existing program added-cost funding to support new CTE programs.
- A Perkins project that includes the new CTE program as part of its application (Perkins funds).
- A new program supported with LEA general funds or other funding sources.
Please note that the application is not submitted until the identified approvers complete their portions. Only a Career Technical Education (CTE) Administrator or Superintendent may submit the application. The application is not complete until the Superintendent’s approval is submitted. The applicant is responsible for ensuring approval has been completed.
