Figure 1. Workshop Series

In this workshop we will explore and experiment with the relationship between text and image. It's a BIG topic but we will approach it incrementally and sideways, through collage, captioning, iteration and ekphrastic responses. Using the university library as a source, we will create new or altered meaning for existing images and consider how framing through language changes what we see. The workshop and the publication will have an emphasis on thinking with our hands.

We will look at the work of artists who consider or utilise this relationship in various ways including Tracey Moffatt, Chris Marker, Burchill/McCamley and think about writing by Saidiya Hartman and Ariella Aïsha Azoulay.

The workshops will culminate in the production of a series of small publications. We will work collectively and intuitively to conceptualise and produce these together.

BLOP BLOP BLOP, an annual GPG workshop series, takes direct inspiration from blip blip blip, a curatorial programme founded in Leeds UK, committed to examining and fostering relationships between contemporary art practice and art education.
