This season, let's FALL into Arthurian legend.
Our QUEST, as set before us, has 3 reading options.
POETRY QUEST
We will read Malcolm Guite's Galahad and the Grail. This is the first volume in his blossoming series, Merlin's Isle. We will meet on 2 dates in order to divide his work and enjoy the content in more readable and enjoyable portions. See below for dates and times. The first discussion will cover Books One and Two, the second discussion will cover Book Three. This book has become hard to find. We have several copies left HERE. If you cannot find a printed copy, Audible has a great audio version read by Guite. U.K times will be offered, see sign-up below.
CURRICULUM QUEST
Join me in reading King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, our sixth grade Literature selection of Arthurian legends as retold by Roger Lancelyn Green. For this book club I'll host both parent-only and parent/student discussion sessions.
Students qualify at age 12 and above for this book club. Spaces are limited.
Personal Note: I recognize this book is scheduled for younger ages in our curriculum, but I'm planning for an elevated discussion according to the student ages recommended.
CHALLENGE QUEST
We will read one of the defintive works that chronicled medieval lore and crosses the lines of myth and history; Geoffrey of Monmouths's The History of the Kings of Britain. Is this myth or history? A bit of both. But it has shaped generations of literature including our beautiful poetic co-read by Guite in this book club season. I'll be reading from this version of The History of the Kings of Britain. Fair warning, this is not pretty poetry or emotive story, but it is a writing of grand deeds and legendary figures. U.K. times will be offered, see sign-up below.
Please register below to be included in emails and discussions.
Sign-up links for the exact sessions will be sent to registrants a week before. All online sessions are held via Zoom. I will move times or add discussion sessions as needed to optimize group sizes.
You do not need to sign up for all quests. Choose the quest (book) that works for you or interests you most.
I hope you'll join me in this quest!
