  • The Carmichael Prize Exhibition has seven awards this year:
    1) The Critic's Prize for Best Painting by an *Established Artist: $2000.00
    2) The Critic's Prize for Best Painting by an Established Artist (Runner Up): $1000.00
    3) The Critic's Prize for Best Painting by an *Amateur Artist: $1200.00
    4) The Critic's Prize for Children Ages 13 to 16 years old: $500.00
    5) The Critic's Prize for Children Ages 10 to 12 years old: $300.00
    6) The Critic's Prize for Children ages 7 to 9 years old: $200.00
    7) The People's Choice: $1000.00

  • *Established Artist – Professional Artist
    *Amateur Artist – One who makes art for the love of it.
    *Children –Any child between the ages of 7 to 16 years old.

  • Contest Rules – Please Read Before Filling Out Application Form Below

  • 1. Submissions for The Carmichael Prize must be the original work of the artist and cannot have been shown before in a professional gallery in Barbados. The exhibition is open to any artist who is a resident of Barbados. Submissions may include paintings, mixed media, mosaics, 3-Dimensional artwork, etc.


    2. Theme of the exhibition is "Take Me Home". This theme can be interpreted however the artist wishes.

  • 3. All works submitted must have the following written on the back:

  • a. The title of the work
    b. The year it was created
    c. Medium
    d. The dimensions of the work.
    e. The artist's name

  • 4. Maximum of three pieces from any one artist. (A third piece may not be hung depending
    on the volume of entrants).
  • 5. Completed application form to be submitted to the Gallery of Caribbean Art by Thursday, October 15th, 2026.
  • 6. The size of the artwork must not exceed 1.5m x 1.5m or 60 x 60 inches on outside
    measurement (this applies to both framed and unframed works). All works submitted must
    be ready to hang. (No Nylon or string. Hanging wire only.)
  • 7. Entrants must arrange for their work to be delivered to the Gallery of Caribbean Art on or
    before Thursday, November 12th, 2026. No late entries will be accepted.
  • 8. All works in The Carmichael Prize Exhibition must be for sale to the public.

  • 9. The judges will view all entries. Their decision on the works to be exhibited and the prizes to be awarded will be final.

  • 10. The official opening and prize giving will take place on Thursday, November 19th, 2026.
  • 11. Employees of CIBC and the Gallery of Caribbean Art, and members of their immediate
    families and those with whom they are domiciled are not eligible to enter this contest.

  • 12. The Gallery of Caribbean Art will exercise every care with works submitted, but will not be responsible for the loss of, damage to, or any breakage of exhibits in its custody, or for the insurance of exhibits either in transit or in the exhibition.

  • 13. Exhibition closes on Thursday, December 10th, 2026.
  • 14. Work must be collected by Friday, December 11th, 2026.

  • 15. Works that remain on the gallery's premises for more than 30 days after the closure of the exhibition will be disposed of according to the Gallery of Caribbean Art's judgment.

    competition!
