We are excited to announce the USEL Youth Robotics Program, in partnership with FUSD ELOP & Teaching and Learning Departments, beginning the week of September 14, 2026.

This program is designed to introduce and expand your child’s skills in robotic engineering and coding. Students will not only build and program robots but also gain experience in AI-assisted coding, helping them code faster, more accurately, and with greater creativity.

Students will also have exclusive access to the STEAM Coach app
, featuring AI assistants that guide them through RoboMission challenges and Future Innovators projects. This cutting-edge learning tool helps students brainstorm, problem-solve, and explore concepts more deeply — turning practice into progress, and progress into innovation.

For students in 1st and 2nd grade, the Starter Kit program is required. For those in 3rd grade, placement depends on age: if your child is 7 years old or younger, we recommend the Starter Kit program; if they are 8 years old or older, we recommend they join the Robomission program. Students in 4th grade and above are required to enroll in the Robomission program.

AI Coach in the STEAM Coach app. The AI Coach answers your student's questions about robotics, coding, and engineering. It runs on Claude, an AI service from Anthropic PBC. If you choose yes: your student types messages and we send only those words to Anthropic, never their name, school, grade, or your contact details; we keep the conversations for 90 days and then delete them; your student's teacher and authorized USEL staff can read them; Anthropic is barred from using them to train its models; the app tells your student plainly that it is an AI and not a person; if your student writes something suggesting they may be unsafe, the app shows crisis resources including 988 and alerts USEL staff, who are mandated reporters under California law. If you choose no, your student uses the rest of the app normally. You may change this answer at any time by emailing support@usengineeringleague.org, and we process these requests within 2 business days.
