Crafting Time is a series of public art x writing workshops about calendars and time, culminating in a group exhibition/reading.

Led by Sun Park and J. Yuru Zhou, we will explore the spiritual, political histories of calendar-making and the relational nature of calendars through readings, discussions, poetry/craft exercises, art objects, and shared ritual.

Hosted at four different spaces across SF and the East Bay, we will gather in arts/writing/alternative community spaces, journeying from the fall of 2026 to the 2027 Lunar New Year.

This is for artists, writers, cultural workers, and anyone else in the Bay Area who finds themselves crushed by the foot of capitalism and alienated by industrial time, but striving to create alternative life infrastructure nonetheless!! 🤹‍♀️

BROKEN CALENDARS - how do you relate to the focus of this workshop?
BROKEN CALENDARS is open to anyone, with a focus on organizers, historians, archivists, and anyone else interested in sustaining social movements + building alternative infrastructures (imagining overlap between these positions!).
SUN workshops are open to anyone interested in saju and lunisolar calendars, but applicants who have family/ancestral connections to Korea or to other peoples in East, South East and Central Asia will be prioritized. Do you identify with one of these prioritized backgrounds?

These workshops are offered on a trust-based sliding scale donation model, which functions to both allow the class to be accessible to anyone who wants to take it (with NOTAFLOF), and for those who are in the position to do so, to support others in accessing the course.

Our sliding scale, which we offer as a benchmark, not as a prescription:

- (1) Reduced - This rate supports individuals frequently struggling to meet basic needs or navigating a financial crisis.
- (2) Standard - The standard rate is the foundational cost of the course. This rate is designed for those who generally meet their basic needs with some room for discretionary spending.
- (3) Redistribution - This rate is for those comfortably exceeding their basic needs with ample discretionary funds, who can thus contribute towards equitable economic distribution.
- (4) Patron - This rate is a call to those who are in a position of significant economic advantage and wish to act as patrons of the course, helping to spread the work and support others. It’s a testament to a commitment towards creating a more equitable and just society by leveraging one’s own resources and privileges.
Additionally, as independent [artists, researchers, cultural workers] who [are underemployed, work part-time], collecting sliding scale donations helps us offset the time and energy we have poured outside of wage labor to create something we believe in (as we know so many others do too!).

We hope to sustainably do community-based artistic, intellectual, cultural work outside of formal educational institutions, with and for the people, lineages, and communities of practice we want to see flourishing in the world. <3
