NZDA Taupo: Fur & Feathers Kids Competition
The New Zealand Deerstalkers Association (NZDA) Taupo branch is hosting the annual Fur & Feathers Kids Competition from September 25th to September 27th, 2026. This event is designed to engage local youth in outdoor pursuits, targeting four specific pest and game species: possums, hares, rabbits, and magpies.

Event Schedule and Operations
Registration closes at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, September 23rd, 2026. The competition officially commences with the opening of the capture window on Friday, September 25th, 2026. Participants will check in their harvested specimens on Sunday, September 27th, between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM. Following the check-in period, the prize-giving ceremony will take place from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. During the check-in window, registered children will receive complimentary sausages and drinks, while adult supporters can purchase BBQ items for a nominal fee of $2.00. The weigh-in and prize-giving will be held at NZDA Taupo, 62 Mountain Road, Maunganamu 3379, Taupo, New Zealand.

Competition Rules and Guidelines
Participation is restricted to children between the ages of 1 and 12 years. To maintain hygiene and fair judging standards, all submitted specimens must be strictly chilled only; no frozen bodies will be accepted under any circumstances. Prize draws are structured around species diversity and volume. Competitors who submit at least one specimen of each of the four target species (possums, hares, rabbits, and magpies) gain eligibility across all four primary prize draws, with additional scaling for multi-species entries.
