Graduate Level Application for Graduation/Degree Audit

Application Deadlines

To help ensure your degree audit is completed in time for graduation, please submit your Application for Graduation/Degree Audit by the appropriate deadline.

Spring Graduation	September 1st

Submitting your application by the deadline allows the Office of the Registrar sufficient time to review your academic record, identify any remaining degree requirements, and notify you of your graduation status.

Understanding Your Degree Audit

Your degree audit provides an official evaluation of your progress toward completing your degree requirements. It is designed to help you understand what requirements have been completed and identify any remaining coursework or university requirements.

Please note that a completed degree audit does not guarantee graduation. Your degree will be awarded only after all university, degree, major, minor, concentration, residency, GPA, and any other applicable graduation requirements have been successfully completed, verified, and approved by the Office of the Registrar. Participation in a commencement ceremony does not constitute the awarding of a degree.

If your audit indicates you are eligible to graduate, your degree will be officially conferred after final grades have been reviewed, all requirements have been verified, and your degree has been posted to your academic record.

Graduation Honors

Honors are only designated for baccalaureate receipts ONLY. If you qualify for graduation honors, your designation will be determined after your final cumulative grade point average has been calculated and all degree requirements have been verified. Official honors are awarded in accordance with university policy and, when applicable, will be reflected on your academic transcript and diploma.

Please note that honors recognized during the commencement ceremony are preliminary and remain subject to final verification.

Review Your Audit Carefully

We encourage you to review your degree audit carefully and contact your academic advisor if you have questions about your degree requirements or academic progress. Your degree requirements are based on your catalog year and the university policies in effect at the time your degree is awarded.

While every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of your audit, updates resulting from transfer credit evaluations, grade changes, academic record corrections, administrative actions, or changes to university policy may require additional review. The Office of the Registrar has final authority in determining degree completion and eligibility for degree conferral.

Commencement Information

Eligibility to Participate

Commencement is a celebration of your academic achievements; however, participation in the ceremony does not mean that your degree has been awarded.

Students may participate in commencement if they have seven (7) or fewer credit hours remaining to complete their degree requirements. Students completing their final requirements during the fall semester, as well as students who earned their degrees during the previous summer term, will participate in the Fall Commencement Ceremony.

Example of a student who should apply:

A student needs 12 credit hours to complete their degree and is registered for 12 credit hours during the Fall semester. Because they are completing all remaining degree requirements that semester, they should apply to graduate for the Fall term.

Example of a student who should WAIT to apply:

A student needs 19 credit hours to complete their degree but is registered for only 12 credit hours during the Fall semester. Since they will still have 7 credit hours remaining after the Fall semester, they should not apply to graduate for Fall. Instead, they should apply for the term in which they expect to complete their final 7 credit hours.

Graduation applications should be submitted for the semester in which the student expects to complete all degree requirements—not simply the semester in which the student is enrolled. Participation in commencement is based on eligibility and does not indicate that a degree has been awarded.

Ceremony Participation

As commencement approaches, important information about the ceremony will be sent to your WNMU email account. You will be asked to confirm whether you plan to participate in the ceremony. Confirming your attendance by the stated deadline is important, as seating and ceremony planning are based on student responses.

Commencement Regalia

The WNMU Bookstore will also provide information regarding commencement regalia. Your student fees cover the cost of your cap and gown, and all graduating students are eligible to receive regalia, regardless of whether they choose to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Financial Aid Exit Counseling

If you borrowed federal student loans while attending WNMU, federal regulations require you to complete Exit Counseling before leaving the university. Please complete this requirement within one week of graduating by visiting the Federal Student Aid website CLICK HERE.
