Team Captain Commitment for 2027

As we look ahead to 2027, we've been thinking a lot about what makes Team Vegan Powered Athlete special and how we can continue building a stronger, more connected community.

VPA has always been about more than racing, podiums, social media followers or how fast you are. It's about showing what is possible as vegan athletes, supporting one another, and representing a message we believe in.

For 2027, we're introducing a new leadership role within the team: VPA Team Captains.

What is a VPA Team Captain?

Team Captains will be a small group of VPA members who want to take a more active role in helping represent, support and grow our community throughout the year.

This is not an elite-athlete program. You don't need to be the fastest athlete, race the most, have thousands of social media followers or stand on podiums.

We're looking for people who believe in the VPA mission and genuinely want to help make the team better.

Captains will help create the energy and engagement that makes a community feel like a community - both publicly and inside Team VPA.

What will be expected of Team Captains?

Team Captains will commit to the role for the full January-December 2027 season.

Each month, Captains will be expected to:

• Share at least one public VPA-related post or reel, plus two VPA-related stories, tagging Team VPA when appropriate.

• Make at least two original posts in the private Team VPA Facebook group. These can be about training, racing, vegan nutrition, gear, accomplishments, struggles, questions, upcoming events or anything that starts a meaningful team conversation.

• Engage meaningfully in the VPA Facebook group each week by supporting other members, commenting on posts, welcoming new teammates, answering questions, celebrating accomplishments and helping keep conversations going.

• Represent VPA positively at races, events and within their local endurance communities.

• Support and participate in major VPA team initiatives whenever reasonably possible.

We aren't looking for forced posts or advertisements. We want Captains to share VPA naturally as part of their lives as vegan athletes.

$20 Monthly VPA Gear Credit

We also want to recognize the additional commitment our Captains are making. Active Team Captains who meet the monthly participation expectations will receive a $20 VPA Store Credit each month to use toward apparel and gear in the Vegan Powered Athlete store. (Not valid on custom gear partner purchases.) *Does not role over into next year.

That's up to $240 in VPA store credit during the 2027 season.

Our hope is that this not only gives something back to the people investing their time into the community, but also helps our Captains continue representing VPA out on the roads, trails, at races and wherever their adventures take them.

Why are we doing this?

One of the things we've learned over the years is that building a community takes more than simply having a Facebook group or putting challenges on a calendar.

It takes people.

People starting conversations. People welcoming someone new. People congratulating someone after a difficult race. People sharing what they're learning. People showing up at events. People proudly wearing VPA and demonstrating that vegan athletes are everywhere.

Rather than expecting every Team VPA member to participate in exactly the same way, we want to create an opportunity for those who want to take on a larger role to help lead the way.

Our Team Captains will help us do that.

We'll be selecting approximately 4-8 Team Captains for the 2027 season.

We're not necessarily looking for the biggest social media accounts or the longest race resumes. We're looking for reliable, positive, engaged vegan athletes who believe in what VPA represents and want tohelp strengthen the community.
