At Urban Roots we are growing, preparing, and sharing food to nourish young minds and cultivate tomorrow's leaders. Urban Roots has a long history of offering high school programming, and this fall we are expanding our community by launching our first middle school program, Food Lab!
Food Lab is a weekly afterschool program designed as an opportunity for middle school youth to experience how growing, cooking, and sharing food can build connection, care, and community. In Food Lab, participants will have the opportunity to explore their relationship with food by preparing and sharing meals together, exchanging family food stories, and visiting our farms to better understand the work that goes into growing food. Throughout this program, youth will build meaningful connections with food and begin to recognize how their contributions can create something nourishing.
Everybody eats, so everyone is welcome! Submit your interest form to join us at the table.

Session I of Food Lab will be Thursdays, Oct 1 - Nov 19 from 4:30pm - 6:00pm at the Dove Springs Rec Center. There will be 2 additional Saturday dates hosted at our South Farm (4711 Winnebago) where family and friends are encouraged to attend.
Food will be provided (or prepared!) for each day of the program, and limited transportation in the area is available. Programming will be offered bilingually if there is a need. Once you have submitted your interest form, we will contact you to confirm your spot.
Please reach out to programs@urbanrootsatx.org with any questions!
