Illuminating Yuma, One Sculpture at a Time

Yuma is the Sunniest Place on Earth – and now, we’re celebrating it
like never before.
The City of Yuma Division of Arts and Culture invites individuals,
organizations, and businesses to be part of the Adopt a Sun
Adoption Program, a citywide public art event. Adopter will select an artist from our artist roster
to transform a large fiberglass sun sculpture into radiant works of art, to be showcased across
Yuma in a dazzling 12-month long exhibition.

Project Details

• Adoption Fee: $3000
• Sculpture Design: The adopter will go through the Adopt a Sun Artist Roster, to select an
  artist for their sun design. Adopter can also request minor modifications or additions, such
  as adding a logo, color changes, etc.
• Sculpture Material: The artist chosen by the adopter will be provided with a fiberglass
  sun to customize.
• Public Display: Sculptures will be installed in high-traffic areas across the city,
  accompanied by plaques with artist info and sponsor recognition.
• Display Duration: Each sculpture will be displayed for 12 months.
• Location: All suns will have a permanent location, unless otherwise selected by the
  adopter.

 

Elegibility

Open to any individuals, organization, or business.

 

Application is open and ongoing. Submit to Arts@yumaaz.gov please use "Adopt a Sun Adoption" in the subject line.

1. Completed application form and submit
2. Once your adoption is approved, we'll contact you to confirm your in-person appointment. During the meeting, we'll review the adoption agreement, collect the adoption fee, and guide you through selecting a design from the Adopt a Sun Artist Roster
3. Once an artist is selected, they will be notified and a meeting will be set up between adopter and artist at the Yuma Art Center to finalize the design
4. A date will be selected to begin applying design onto the sculpture, once steps 1-4 have been completed
5. Sun will be installed at the designated location once it is completed

The next step in the process is an in-person or online meeting where we'll go over design options and finalize the adoption. Please send us your top three preferred dates and times, in order of preference, and we'll do our best to accommodate your schedule.

Our Gallery and Public Art Coordinator, Kristyn Trujillo, will be in contact with you to confirm the meeting date.

• Display of Artwork: The Yuma Art Center will be responsible for the installation and display, including but not limited to labeling, of any submitted artwork ("Work"). Exhibitor shall not remove or manipulate any Work during the install or run of the rotation.
• Labeling: Exhibitor must label each individual Work with the Exhibitor's name and the title of the Work.
• Subject Matter: The Yuma Art Center may refuse any Work due to the subject matter or condition of the Work. The Yuma Art Center will not accept Work containing nudity or profanity.
• Delivery and Pick-Up of Work: The Yuma Art Center will coordinate delivery of the sculpture to the designated location. At the conclusion of the rotation period, the Yuma Art Center will retrieve the sculpture directly from the location.
• Copyright: The Yuma Art Center will not be held responsible for any type of copyright infringement. All works of art must be the Exhibitor's own original ideas and assembly.
• Marketing and Promotions: By exhibiting Work at the Yuma Art Center, Exhibitor agrees to have Exhibitor's name and photographs of the Work(s) reproduced for publicity, promotional and educational uses. The Yuma Art Center will create and distribute Show cards for the Show and a press release promoting the Show that will be sent to local publications, radio and television stations. If Exhibitor desires to produce any marketing materials, including but not limited to ads, flyers, and brochures in any format, for the Show in addition to those produced by the Yuma Art Center, Exhibitor must coordinate with the Yuma Art Center regarding the design and content of such materials; and Exhibitor must receive final approval in writing from the Yuma Art Center before distributing such materials. All additional advertising must include an unaltered the Yuma Art Center logo. If Exhibitor violates this provision in any manner, the Yuma Art Center may prohibit Exhibitor from participating in future shows and exhibitions.

By signing below, I agree that I will assume all risks that arise from my participation. I also hereby waive any claims against the City of Yuma and its co-sponsors for any injuries or loss that arise from my participation. Further, I grant full permission to the event organizers, promoters and sponsors or any agent authorized by them, to use any photographs, videos, recordings or any other record of this event for any legitimate purpose. I acknowledge that I have read, understand and agree to all the Exhibitor Rules and Regulations, and understand that additional Vendor Insurance and Indemnity Requirements may be required.
