Investing in Educators
The VMA Foundation is exploring a new initiative designed to support music educators who bring their students into the community through outreach performances.

Many educators already create meaningful opportunities for students to perform at assisted living communities, libraries, community centers, hospitals, and other public or community spaces. Others may be interested in doing this work but could benefit from additional support to get started.

The VMA Educator Outreach Grant provides up to $250 per outreach concert to participating music educators. The goal is simple: support educators who create opportunities for students to use their music in service to others.

An outreach concert could involve one student, several students, or a larger group. Programs could include diverse repertoire while incorporating classical music and would need to be free, accessible, and open without discrimination.

Why Support Educators?

We believe exceptional educators are powerful multipliers of community impact. Whereas one student family alone can make a positive difference performing in their community, one teacher can potentially inspire an entire studio of students to make an impact. The grant recognizes the important role educators play in making these experiences possible—from preparing students and repertoire to coordinating families, venues, and performances.

Important Information
- Applications are reviewed by the VMA Foundation based on alignment with the Foundation’s community outreach mission and available funding.
- Student membership in the VMA Foundation Junior Program is recommended but not required.
- Following an approved concert, educators must submit a Concert Completion Report.
- VMA provides the support. Educators create the opportunity. Students bring the music into the community.
