9AM- 12PM Nutrition & Behavior: Feeding Kids with Trauma Histories

This presentation explores the powerful connection between nutrition, blood sugar, brain function, and behavior in children with trauma histories. Designed for foster and adoptive parents and caregivers, it provides practical, nutrition-focused strategies to help support more stable energy, mood, focus, and overall well-being. Participants will learn how balanced meals and snacks — with an emphasis on protein, healthy fats, fiber, and whole foods — can help nourish the body and support children who may already have dysregulated stress systems.

1-4 PM Understanding the Juvenile Justice System/Court Process

The Center for the Rights of Abused Children protects and defends the rights of foster children in courthouses and capitols around the country. The Center’s policy team develops and reforms laws to prioritize kids, and our Children’s Law Clinic enforces the laws through the courts.  We strive for recognition of children’s inherent right to safety and stability by judges and lawmakers. In this training, our attorneys will walk you through the dependency process—including an overview of court hearings and procedural timelines. They will discuss important state and federal laws as well as related court regulations. You will learn about your rights as a foster parent—including your right to be heard in court. You will also learn about foster children’s constitutional rights and the role their attorneys play under Arizona’s new law. The training also includes updates on new and pending legislation and important cases that impact foster children and their court proceedings. Join us to learn more about advocating for the kids in your care and helping their voices be heard!
