  • The FHS Neuroscience Club is an inclusive student organization dedicated to exploring neuroscience, supporting neurodiversity and mental-health awareness, developing student leadership, participating in academic competitions, and serving the Friendswood community. Everyone belongs here; no previous neuroscience experience is required.

  • Students are expected to help maintain a safe, respectful, inclusive, and academically appropriate club environment. By joining, the student agrees to the following:

    • Treat students, teachers, guests, volunteers, and community members with respect.
    • Support an inclusive environment for students of all backgrounds, abilities, skill levels, and levels of neuroscience experience.
    • Use respectful language regarding autism, neurodiversity, mental health, disability, and medical conditions; do not stereotype, stigmatize, mock, diagnose, or publicly identify another person.
    • Protect the privacy of students and community members encountered through club, outreach, or service activities.
    • Follow all Friendswood High School and Friendswood ISD rules, safety expectations, and directions from the Teacher Sponsor or supervising staff.
    • Behave appropriately during meetings, competitions, outreach events, professional presentations, and community activities.
    • Understand that club education and discussion are informational only and do not constitute medical, psychological, diagnostic, or treatment advice.
    • Obtain Teacher Sponsor approval before representing the club publicly or contacting organizations, professionals, sponsors, media, or community partners on behalf of the club.
    • Follow school procedures for fundraising, donations, money collection, and use of the FHS/FISD name or branding.
    • Obtain permission before photographing, recording, interviewing, identifying, or posting another student or community participant.
    • Understand that individual activities may have additional eligibility, attendance, deadline, space, consent, transportation, or school-approval requirements.
  • SECTION 4 | PARENT/GUARDIAN PARTICIPATION CONSENT

  • I have reviewed the purpose and anticipated programs of the Friendswood High School Neuroscience Club. I understand that approved activities may include regular club meetings, Brain Bee preparation, academic competitions, guest speakers, educational programs, student publications, service projects, neurodiversity initiatives, approved fundraising, and community outreach.

    I understand that:
    • Participation in the club is voluntary.
    • Specific activities may require additional permission, registration, eligibility, or school forms.
    • Off-campus activities, transportation, competitions, or field trips may require separate FHS/FISD authorization.

    • Fundraising and financial activities must follow school procedures and receive appropriate approval.
    • The Teacher Sponsor and school administration retain authority over club activities.
    • External affiliations, including IYNA, do not supersede FHS/FISD rules, policies, or administrative authority.
    • Club programming is educational and does not provide medical or mental-health treatment, diagnosis, or professional advice.
    • This club form does not replace any separate FHS/FISD consent or release required for a particular activity.
  • Meeting Schedule & Transportation

    • Regular club meetings are planned for the first Tuesday of each month from 4:00-5:00 p.m. after school. Dates or times may be adjusted when needed for the school calendar, campus activities, Teacher Sponsor availability, or other FHS/FISD requirements.
    • Students participating in Brain Bee preparation who are interested in or require coaching may attend a weekly Tuesday study hall from 4:00-5:00 p.m. during the Brain Bee preparation/competition season, subject to Teacher Sponsor and school approval.
    • The student's parent/guardian or family is responsible for arranging timely pickup at 5:00 p.m. after club meetings or Brain Bee study hall and for transportation to and from club-related activities outside of school, unless FHS/FISD specifically communicates that school-arranged transportation will be provided for a particular activity.

  • For activities requiring additional FHS/FISD permission, I understand that I may be asked to complete a separate consent form.
  • SECTION 5 | MEDIA RELEASE

  • FHS Neuroscience Club activities may occasionally be photographed or recorded for educational, informational, recognition, or promotional purposes. Approved materials may potentially appear through FHS/FISD communications, the club website, club publications, approved club social-media accounts, IYNA-related chapter communications, event presentations, or community outreach materials.

    Any choice below is intended to supplement, not override, media restrictions or permissions already maintained by Friendswood ISD.
