Part 1 — Theory + Principles (40 points)
Define Breathwork (5 points)
*
Historical Context (5 points) — Give a brief overview of the historical roots of intentional breathing practices and explain how ancient traditions have influenced contemporary breathwork approaches. You do not need an exhaustive history; focus on major influences and the evolution into modern practice.
*
Role of the Facilitator (5 points) — Describe the key responsibilities of a breathwork facilitator before, during, and after a session. Include qualities that support safe and effective facilitation such as presence, observation, consent, adaptability, boundaries, and appropriate scope of practice.
*
Understanding the Nervous System (5 points) — Explain the difference between sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous-system activity. Describe how different breathing patterns may influence arousal, regulation, and the participant’s subjective experience during a session.
*
Somatic + Emotional Processing (5 points) — Explain what interoception is and how breathwork can increase awareness of physical sensations and emotions. Discuss how a facilitator can support emotional or somatic responses without assuming that every response represents trauma being literally released from the body.
*
Ethics + Boundaries (5 points) — Explain why ethics, informed consent, confidentiality, scope of practice, physical and emotional boundaries, and participant autonomy matter in breathwork facilitation. Provide at least one realistic ethical dilemma and explain how you would respond.
*
Facilitator Language + NLP-Informed Cueing (10 points) — Explain how intentional, invitational language can support a participant’s experience without directing or interpreting it for them. Provide two examples of effective cues and explain why they preserve autonomy and support the process.
*
Part 2 — Practical Application (40 points)
Designing a Session (10 points) — Outline the basic structure of a Breath Factor session designed to support stress relief. Include grounding, activation rounds, transitions and breath holds if appropriate, restoration, affirmations, completion/integration, and music considerations. Explain why you chose the pacing, intensity, and overall architecture.
*
Handling Challenges (10 points) — A participant develops significant dizziness, fear, and escalating panic while breathing rapidly. Describe what you would objectively observe, what you would say and do first, how you would modify or stop the breathing technique if needed, how you would help reorient the participant, and when additional assistance, referral, or medical evaluation might be appropriate.
*
Supporting Emotional Expression (10 points) — A participant begins experiencing intense emotion during a session but remains responsive. Describe how you would support them while maintaining safety, consent, autonomy, and appropriate facilitator scope. Include examples of language you might use, how you would decide whether to continue or soften the session, and what you would avoid doing.
*
Feedback + Integration (10 points) — Explain why post-session integration matters. Describe how you would help a participant reflect on physical sensations, emotions, insights, or imagery without interpreting the experience for them or requiring immediate meaning-making. Include examples of questions or practices you might offer.
*
Part 3 — Self-Reflection (20 points)
Personal Growth (10 points) — Reflect on your journey through Breath Factor Practitioner Training. Identify your most significant learning moments, skills that grew, areas that challenged you, and how these experiences have prepared you to facilitate others safely and authentically.
*
Future Application (10 points) — Describe how you envision applying what you learned in future breathwork sessions. Include populations or settings you are interested in serving, how you plan to adapt your facilitation to client needs, and at least one area in which you intend to continue learning, practicing, or seeking mentorship.
